seeing through the eyes of scriptures

question and answer about Aindra Prabhu

Giriraja Swami  asked me an important question ,this is the question and my answer:
My dear Payonidhi Prabhu,

Please accept my best wishes. All glories to Srila Prabhupada.

I wanted to ask you a confidential question about Aindra Prabhu. In his
appeal on Srila Prabhupada's disappearance day, he quoted Srila Bhaktivinoda
Thakura:

“In both forms of sadhana-bhakti (vaidhi and raga) guru is required. In
vaidhi-bhakti-sadhana, according to the aspirant's level of spiritual taste
(ruci), the guru will give necessary instructions on how to vanquish
anarthas by following scriptural injunctions. Then again, the guru will
guide the raganuga-bhakti-sadhaka on the path of rasa, spiritual relish,
according to the disciple's intrinsic spiritual tendency.

The guru must analyze the disciple's natural tendency and establish his
innate lobha (greed) for one of the four rasas - dasya, sakhya, vatsalya or
madhurya. Having determined his innate lobha, the guru schools him with
pertinent instructions. Otherwise, left to himself, the disciple will
stumble along as an unauthorized intruder into the path of rasa and his
lobha and bhava will never reach steadiness. It is not that everyone must be
sadhakas of madhurya rasa. The guru who is unable to determine his
disciple's innate lobha, should, without duplicity, express his inability
and send his disciple to an eligible bona-fide guru conversant in this
science of rasa. For the sadhaka disciple, it is a spiritual catastrophe if
he is without the shelter of a bona-fide highly qualified guru.

If good fortune visits a living entity and he meets a pure devotee who is a
recipient of Sri Caitanya's boundless mercy then that fortunate soul will
certainly develop attraction and greed for the spiritual sentiments that
adorn the eternal residents of Vraja. As long as a living entity does not
meet a pure devotee of this stature, he will remain on the level of vaidhi
bhakti, regulative devotional service. But, as soon as the practitioner,
under superior guidance, takes shelter of Sri Caitanya's lotus feet, he
becomes elevated to the path of raga-bhakti, spontaneous devotional
service.”

How would you say Aindra Prabhu attained steadiness in his lobha and bhava?

Thank you very much. Hare Krishna.

Please accept my humble obaisences
All glories to Srila Prabhupada
It is all through the mercy of Sri Nama Prabhu, without constant chanting there is no ragamarg, this is the difference
between the vaidhi and raga marg bhakta. If we desire ragamarg we should also increase our taste for chanting,
Srila Bhaktvinoda Thakura has stated in Harinama cintamani:

mane habe-aja laksha nama ye kariba;
krame krame tina laksha nama ye smariba.
mahagraha habe citte namera sankhyaya;
acire jabe jadya sadhura kripaya.

“When one’s mind desires to chant and remember one hundred thousand holy names (64 rounds) daily and further desires to slowly increase it to three hundred thousand and when one’s mind becomes very attached and eager to complete the fixed number of rounds daily and pushes one to complete the sankhya everyday, then it is understood that very soon the laziness or apathy in chanting the Hare Krishna maha-mantra will vanish by the mercy of the devotees and one’s chanting will bring one the desired fruit of pure love for Krishna.”

Aindra Prabhu chanted 2 lahks this is in the line of Jagannatha das Babaji:
The main teaching of Shrila Jagannatha dasa Babaji Maharaja is as follows:

“If you want to achieve perfection in Krishna consciousness, you must take a vow to chant a minimum of two hundred thousand or otherwise one hundred thousand of holy names every day, and you must execute that without fail. Before you retire at night you must finish this specific number of rounds, then you can achieve perfection in Krishna consciousness.”

The holy name reveals everything, ones svarupa, cloth, residence, name etc, in manjar bhava, ekadasa bhava.Since long time I never
found steadiness in my own internal desire to follow the mood of the priya narma sakhas, untill I realized by Srila Prabhupada and Lord Gaurangas grace, the answer lies in chanting the holy name.Further more Srila Visvanath Chakravati Thakura has given his Ragavartma
Chandrika, that guides us what to do in Vaidhi sadhana and raga marg .But without understanding these things in the lobha of chanting the holy name and receiving the adhikara, all these things will not be manifested. I went to Narayana Maharaja in 1989 or so when I had initial
desires for raga marg, and one thing he told me was take this chanting of minimum 64 rounds daily to heart .So whatever else he does or does not do, is not my concern, but this advise is really the essence for raga marg.In his Vaisnava ke, Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Prabhupada
has warned about imitating Haridas Thakura (unless and untill one is qualified) one has to mature in Bhakti, like a unripe mango or other fruit can not be tasted until it is ripe.Even for grhasthas 64 rounds is a must if one wants to properly follow ,and we know how Lord Gauranga did not accept prasadam in the house of those grhastas that did not chant 64 rounds (or for that matter any vaisnava, or rather
aspiring vaisnava as Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Prabhupada has stated chanting 64 rounds is the minimum qualification )
Srila Bhaktivinoda Thakura has stated:
Sadhu-vritti, Sajjana Toshani 11/12:

tinei sad-grihastha-jini pratyah laksha-nama grahana karena, tanhara grihei shuddha-vaishnava-gana
prasada grahana karibena.

“Only those devotees are sad-grihasthas (true and ideal householders) who chant 1,00,000 names of Krishna (64 rounds) daily. The pure devotees should accept prasada (foodstuffs) only in the homes of these sad-grihasthas and nowhere else

That also means that those who are pure devotees already chant 64 rounds or more and will only take prasadam in the house of such sincere vaisnavas. Therefore as a Guru also it is important to teach ones disciples to attain to becoming a lakhesvara.
These is so many examples given in the books about the acaryas in our line:
from Narottama-vilasa 10th Vilasa:

Rupamala, the queen of a distant country became so happy on getting initiation from Shrila Narottama dasa Thakura that she took a vow to take 100,000 Harinama (64 rounds of the Hare Krishna maha-mantra) daily. Seeing her determination, everyone began to sing the glory of Shrila Narottama dasa Thakura Mahashaya.

Shri Rasika-mangala, Eastern part, 6th Wave:

“When Shri Rasikananda was a child, he did not waste time playing games like other children. Rather, he would meditate on the maha-mantra. His daily practice was to chant 100,000 Holy Names (64 rounds). He would refuse to accept his mother’s foodstuffs until he completed his above chanting.”
I also gave an answer to Kavichandra Maharaja about wether Srila Prabhupada chanted 64 rounds:
http://nimaipandit.ning.com/profiles/blogs/did-srila-prabhupada-cha...

At least Srila Prabhupada told Tamal Krsna Maharaja he used to chant 64 rounds and it is in TKG's diary.
The Upadesamrta holds the key given by Srila Rupa Goswami to our advancement:
The Nectar of Instruction 7

TRANSLATION
The holy name, character, pastimes and activities of Kṛṣṇa are all transcendentally sweet like sugar candy. Although the tongue of one afflicted by the jaundice of avidyā [ignorance] cannot taste anything sweet, it is wonderful that simply by carefully chanting these sweet names every day, a natural relish awakens within his tongue, and his disease is gradually destroyed at the root."
Lord Caitanya chanted daily 300.000 names as did Haridas Thakura:

From Prema-vilasa Chapter 17: Shrila Narottama to Shrila Kaviraja on the direct process to achieve love of Krishna:

prabhura achaye sankhya tina laksha nama;
eka laksha bhaktagane kaila kripa dana.

"Lord Gauranga Mahaprabhu standard was to chant 3,00,000 names everyday. But He very mercifully awarded His devotees the process of chanting a minimum of 1,00,000 names of Krishna daily.

shri rupa kaila laksha granthera varnana;
tathapiha karila laksha nama grahana.

"Shrila Rupa Goswami has explained and quoted from over 100,000 different scriptures. Even though he was such a great scholar and devotee he himself chanted 100,000 Holy Names daily.

dasa gosvamira ache laksha pramana;
ei mata sarva bhakta kare harinama.

"Shrila Raghunatha dasa Goswami also rigidly followed the instructions of Lord Gauranga by chanting 100,000 names daily. In this way all the devotees chanted the Holy Names of the Lord daily without exception.

gauranga shrimukhe rupe kahila vaishnave;
laksha nama sankhya kari avasya karibe.

"Lord Gauranga gave the following instructions to all the Vaishnavas Himself and also through Shrila Rupa Goswami: Please compulsorily chant 100,000 names of Krishna daily."

I have written also an article about Being in the strong boat of the holy name, that I hope will inspire you:
http://nimaipandit.ning.com/profiles/blogs/in-the-strong-boat-of-th...
We both know how pleased Lord Caitanya was when Rupa Goswami presented this sloka as mentioned in the CC:
I do not know how much nectar the two syllables 'Krish-na' have produced. When the holy name of Krishna is chanted, it appears to dance within the mouth. We then desire many, many mouths. When that name enters the holes of the ears, we desire many millions of ears. And when the holy name dances in the courtyard of the heart, it conquers the activities of the mind, and therefore all the senses become inert.
Rupa Goswami
- Vidagdha-madhava 1.15
In his Anuraga Valli, Srila Visvanatha Chakravati Thakura has also expressed such intense lobha.Maybe
you are familiar with his wonderful book ,Stavamrta Lahari?
this one sloka expresses the mood of our line :
gauranga shrimukhe rupe kahila vaishnave;
laksha nama sankhya kari avasya karibe.

"Lord Gauranga gave the following instructions to all the Vaishnavas Himself and also through Shrila Rupa Goswami: Please compulsorily chant 100,000 names of Krishna daily." :
I have
even written something as a GBC proposal:
http://nimaipandit.ning.com/profiles/blogs/gbc-proposal-to-chant-64
I know great souls like yourself may find this usefull Maharaja.
tan-nāma-rūpa-caritādi-sukīrtanānu-

TRANSLATION
The essence of all advice is that one should utilize one's full time — twenty-four hours a day — in nicely chanting and remembering the Lord's divine name, transcendental form, qualities and eternal pastimes, thereby gradually engaging one's tongue and mind. In this way one should reside in Vraja [Goloka Vṛndāvana dhāma] and serve Kṛṣṇa under the guidance of devotees. One should follow in the footsteps of the Lord's beloved devotees, who are deeply attached to His devotional service.
Aindra Prabhus real contribution is to live and teach constant chanting in Japa and Kirtana,
like in this sloka
etan nirvidyamānānām
icchatām akuto-bhayam
yogināḿ nṛpa nirṇītaḿ

TRANSLATION
O King, constant chanting of the holy name of the Lord after the ways of the great authorities is the doubtless and fearless way of success for all, including those who are free from all material desires, those who are desirous of all material enjoyment, and also those who are self-satisfied by dint of transcendental knowledge.
The holy name of Krsna is the touch stone ,Nama Cintamani that reveals everything.Gopa Kumara
for example constantly engaged in chanting the Krishna Mantra given by his Sat Guru, until he
entered Krsnas lilas. In Kali yuga the maha mantra is recommended as confirmed in Caitanya Upanisad
and Kali santarana upanisad.

These words of Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Prabhupada should resound all over the world to sincere devotees:
lakshesvara vyatita gaura-bhaktira adarsa gaudiyajana kehai svikara karena na.

"This is the precise reason why the real Gaudiya-bhaktas do not accept any other ideal (adarsa) in Gaura-bhakti or Krishna-bhakti except the process of chanting 100,000 names of the maha-mantra daily.
Chaitanya Bhagavata on Laksha Naam

THE PERFECTION OF LIFE IS TO GET THE DEGREE OF LAKSHESHVARA FROM LORD GAURANGA MAHAPRABHU HIMSELF

In Shri Chaitanya-bhagavata, Antya Khanda 9.121-122, Lord Chaitanya Mahaprabhu instructed everyone on whose worship and service He will accept:

(121) prabhu bale,-"jana, 'lakshesvara' bali kare?
prati-dina laksha-nama ye grahana kare"

"Do you know who is a laksesvara? He is someone who chants one laksa or 100,000 holy names (64 rounds of the Hare Krishna maha-mantra) everyday."

Purport by Shrila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakura Prabhupada:

shri gaurasundera balibena-"jini pratidina laksha-nama grahana karibena, tanharai grihe bhagavan sevita hana.

Shri Gaurasundera spoke as follows-"The Supreme Personality of Godhead accepts service only in the home of those who chant one hundred thousand names daily.

"bhagavan tanharai nikate bhoga-dravyadi grahana karena.

"The Lord accepts bhoga (foodstuffs) and other ingredients only from such personalities.

"jini laksha-nama grahana karena na, tahara nikate haite bhagavan naivedya svikara-dvara seva-saubhagya pradana karena na.

"Those who don't chant 100,000 names (64 rounds) daily, are never awarded the great fortune of rendering service to the Lord by offering Him naivedya (bhoga). This is because the Lord never accepts (svikara) their offerings.

"bhagavad-bhakta matrei pratyaha laksha-nama grahana karibena natuva vividha visaye asakta haiya bhagavad-seva karite asamartha haibena."

The Lord continued-"Those who consider themselves devotees of the Lord must compulsorily chant 100,000 names of Krishna everyday otherwise they will gradually but surely become attached to varieties of sense-objects and thus become incapable to rendering any kind of service to the Lord."

tajjanyai shri chaitanyadevera ashrita sakalai nyuna kalpe laksha-nama grahana kariya thakena. natuva gaurasunderera udeshya pradatta naivedya tini grahana karibena na.

(Shrila Sarasvati Thakura Prabhupada continues) "Therefore all the devotees who have taken shelter of Lord Chaitanyadeva perform the chanting of a minimum of 100,000 names of Krishna daily as their first and primary duty. Because they know that if they don't do so then Lord Gaurasundera will never accept the very bhoga (naivedya) which they cook for Him daily.

(122) "se janera nama ami bali 'lakshesvara'
tatha bhiksha amara, na yai anya ghara."

"Lord Gauranga continued-I call such a person a laksheshvara. I only accept meals in such a person's house. I never go anywhere else."

Purport by Shrila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakura Prabhupada:

shri chaitanya bhaktagana abhaktera sahita sambhashana karena na. jini bhaktivyatita karma, jnana o anyabhilashara kathaya pradatta tahara sahita bandhutva karibe na.

"The devotees of Lord Shri Chaitanya never talk with such non-devotees. They never do friendship with those who are engaged in the cultivation of karma, jnana or other desires which are devoid of bhakti.

pratyah laksha-nama grahana na karile patita vyaktiganera visaya-bhoga pravritti vriddhi paya, takhana ara tahara shri gaurasunderarera seva karite pare na.

"Those who don't accept this vow of chanting 100,000 names daily, fall down even more although they were fallen in the first place (due to the contamination of Kali-yuga). Thus their propensity for enjoying the senses and sense-objects continually and steadily increases and ultimately they are not able to render any kind of service even to the most merciful Lord Gaurasundera.

lakshesvara vyatita gaura-bhaktira adarsa gaudiyajana kehai svikara karena na.

"This is the precise reason why the real Gaudiya-bhaktas do not accept any other ideal (adarsa) in Gaura-bhakti or Krishna-bhakti except the process of chanting 100,000 names of the maha-mantra daily.

Shrila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakura Prabhupada:

adhapatita va adhapete gana eka-matra bhajana-sabda-vacya shri-nama-bhajane vimukhata-vasata laksha-nama grahana karibara parivarte anya bhajanera chalana korena, taddvara tahadera kona mangala haya na.

"Those spiritual aspirants who are already fallen or will fall down from spiritual life in the future are averse to this sole means of deliverance called nama-bhajana, which is the worship of the sound incarnation of God in the form of chanting 100,000 names of the the Holy Names daily. Coming under the sway of their averseness to chant laksha-nama daily, they duplicitously invent (chalana) other means of devotional service (bhajana) to justify their not chanting 100,000 names daily but it is to be clearly understood that by this action they will not achieve anything auspicious (mangala) in their spiritual life."

All glories to Srila Prabhupada
I just like to share this with you in confidence, Aindra Prabhu once told me he is attracted to the Sakhis love but always being faithfull
to Radha, but if not possible he would settle for being a manjari ,he once discussed this with Narayana Maharaja. But was not
impressed with the discussion he told me.Later when I pointed out that the manjaris experience more love and spiritual happiness
than even the sakhis , he said ,yes this is the line of Mahaprabhu, but I do not accept ,Narayana Maharajas view that Prabhupadas
was a manjari it is clear to me him that Prabhupada was a priya.narma sakha and also stated by Srila Sridhara Swami, and confirming Lord Nityananda
Prabhus prediction that a devotee in his line(sakya Bhava) would spread KC all over the world.Later he me told a few years later he was
fully satisfied following in the footsteps of the manjaris and we never discussed it again after that.

Maharaja, bhava bhakti is very high, and I do not believe one can attain it so easy, unless one chant 3 lahks daily without offences
,Aindra had great Lobha and thus he never left Vrindavan, he gave up everything to attain Vraja Bhakti ,and he engaged in constant chanting Hare Krishna in kirtana and on beads.I have elaborated more on the means in my other email. But Aindra Prabhu surely knew
his staiy bhava, but as for sattvika bhava and anubhava,, there is so much qualification needed .Knowing ones sthiya Bhava and being free from anarthas will surely take one to Gokula Vrindavan and I believe Aindra Prabhu had this, plus dying in Vraja is a must for those who want to enter Krsnas pastimes, even a fly or tree that leaves its body in Vraja attains Gokula Vrindavan as stated by Srila Rupa Goswami in Mathura Mahatmya.I believe you was refering to his Sthiya bhava...?As mentioned in Brahma Samhita even Lord Brahma only knew his sthiya bhava as a Gopi (what catagory is no mentioned)but not his ekadasa bhava, but when he came as Haridas Thakura, then surely Lord Caitanya revealed everything.Lord Brahma whent to Antardvipa (where our ISKCON temple is) and asked Lord Caitanya for
for forgiveness for his stealing the sakhas and calves, and Lord Gauanga blessed him to become Haridas Thakura. So Lord Brahma and Haridas Thakura are the heads of our Sampradaya and showing us by example.Aindra Prabhu embodied this mood of constant chanting Hare Krishna and thus he found steadiness, even staying in the west is no obstacle as long as we are fully chanting Hare Krishna ,one lakh or more and remembering Vraja, the many holy places there and Krishnas sweet pastimes.Krsna is inspiring me to add this to the other email I send you, now I really have to chant and worship Giriraja.I hope to show you this one amazing Giriraja sila
I obtained by Lord Caitanyas mercy, it has a picture of Krishna , and all learned Vrijabasis describes it as a Yugal kisora Sila, your
association is very dear to me,I hope we can often discuss such things as in this world to find anyone to discuss such things are very very very very rare.Aindra Prabhu ki jaya
