Chandogya Upanisad , I was looking through the second chapter of Bhagavad Gita for a verses from Chandogya Upanisad ,I thought I had seen one but it is in the commentaries of the acaryas, but Srila Prabhupada has mentioned Chandogya Upanisad in his 8,26 purport ,Many of the commentators of these Upanisads are Mayavadis but there are many sannyasis and Vaisnavas in the Sri Sampradaya and our Madhava Sampradaya that study and comment on Chandogya Upanisad.On Padayatra in 1989 in California , one of Srila Prabhupada early disciples Rohini Kumara Swami showed me his translation of Chandogya Upanisad.He was a real scholar and knew sanskrit ,he could also speak in sanskrit to a degree, and learned languages like Hindi but he spoke Pandit Hindi that he learned from Sri Vaisnavas when he was send to Sri Lanka to open a temple ,the first ISKCON temple there.One devotee from Holland Krsna das ,who is my former godbrother became a devotee due to Rohini Kumaras preaching .Krsna das was living with Buddhist monks at the time and was a Buddhist monk..So in the Chandogya Upanisad is a very interesting pastime.Sri Prahlada Maharaja had a son Virocana he is mentioned in many Puranas and Upanisads, but strangly he really fell far from the tree, because he was completly ignorant of even the basic understanding that you are not the body .We can see in Srimad Bhagavatam how even Hiranyakasipu pacified the relatives of his brother Hiranyaksa that you are nto the body do not lament over his socalled death at the hands of Lord Visnu (Lord Varaha).Virocana became a king of the demons in the Universe and he and Indra once went to see Lord Brahma to get knowledge of the self.Virocana did not even pass the first test.Lord Brahma told Indra and Virocana to go look into the well and see their own reflection came back and said : Thanks Lord Brahma I now realize that I am this body ,and the goal of life is to make the body satisfied and happy and please those dear to the body .So you see he completely fell the test .Lord Brahma has created different illusions such as Moha and Maha Moha, Tamisra and these illusions are explained in the 3th canto of Srimad Bhagavatam ,Srila Prabhupada have elaborated on them.Now Virocans son was Bali Maharaja that of course met Lord Vamanadev and was a pure devotee, he was also the favorite grandson of Prahlada Maharaja .So there are many details I can not get into in this post but it gives you some idea.After Rohini Kumara fell from sannyasa he had been given resannyasa and given the name Bhakti Vaidurya Madhava Maharaja different from the other sannyasi with a similar name that recently left his body due to corona virus .So I talked with Rohini by phone and asked him if he still had his translationes and commentaries of Chandogya Upanisad and Mukunda Upanisad so I could make them into books for the benefit of other devotees.He agreed it was a great idea, but he never got back to me and disappeared .Ashamed of his falldown from bhakti ..lets pray for him he was one of the early disciples of Srila Prabhupada
