Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Prabhupada introduced 24 hours Nirjala fasting for Sri Radha, it still goes on in Gaudiya math\
Bhag Bazar temple in Calcutta
If you want to benefit yourself the best way on Radhastami one of the things is to not take grains and try to do Nirjala fasting for Sri Radha, and read many prayers to Radha, chant 64 rounds, read Krsna book.I pray Sri Radha may bless us all with Her mercy.
One devotee asked me:Since Sri Radha is not Vishnu-tattva, what is actually the reason not to take grains on Radhastami?
She is sakti tattva:
like Srila Prabhupada has stated in his Prayer to the Lotus Feet of Krsna
I emphatically say to you, O brothers, you will obtain your good fortune from the Supreme Lord Krsna only when Srimati Radharani becomes pleased with you.
These things can only be understood when there is love for Sri Radha, others will not understand, many of our acaryas have fasted for Lalitadevi and Srila Rupa Goswami also, and engaged in their bhajan.I fasted last year on Radhastami like Nirjala untill next day and chanted and was offering many prayers it was wonderful...according to our surrender Radha Krsna will reward us
You really think Sri Radha is not worth our fasting? fasting is broken by taking grains so at least no grains and half day fasting..I pray Radharani will reveal these truths in your heart
anyhow this is the standard of Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Prabhupada this is good enough for me
this devotee wrote:
yes yes, I also did already last year like Ekadasi. If it would be mentioned in sastra it would be easier for me to convince others. Our Gurumaharaj advised also to the mission in India to do like Ekadasi. Still I do not really understand what pleasure they have by my fasting (and suffering). I am also observing all Vishnu-tattva like Ekadasi. Haribol
so that was the standard of BS Sarasvati? That may be helpful enough for convincing others. haribol
my response:
we are very fallen and sinful this is why we are in this material world ,even accidentally fasting on such days gives one eternal benefits...you really think Radha Krsna wants you to suffer? Why did so many devotees did so much austerities in the past like Dhruva maharaja? This is the selfishness of persons in Kali yuga, nothing for Krsna and all for me.These things are for selfpurification, but you can take prasadam after half day, some even take grains, it depends on our level of advancement. This year I have heart problems but I wish I could do full Nirjala for the pleasure of Sri Radha and get Her compassion as I am a fallen wretch.....do you know how Prahlada Maharaja became Prahlada?
By accidential doing Nirjala fasting on Narasimha Catrudasi, this is explained by Lord Narasimha Himself.I will fast on Narasimha Caturdasi birth after birth if I may one day allowed such exalted bhakti as Prahlada Maharaja..so what is I suffer a little inconvienience for Sri Radha..I will go to Hell if that pleases Her,but I just beg Her ,dear Sri Radha please do not neglect me..please bestow you mercy on fallen me.
You have already been given divine instructions of HDG Bhakti Vaibhava Puri Maharaja to only take ekadasi prasadam so you are very fortunate
,kindly do not disobey such a divine instruction. My humble pranams at his lotusfeet may he bless us with pure bhakti .....
Balarama Purnima, Radhastami, Nityananda Trayodasi , Advaita Acaryas apperance day has not been described in sastra, only an advanced devotee will know that fasting for their mercy is most proper.
What to speak of Lord Balarama, Lord Nityananda,Sri Radha and Srila Advaita Acarya even the associates of Lord Caitanya if you fast for their apperance days and honor them this will give one pure bhakti one day
your servant

When one pleases Lord Janardana what need has he for the sacred rivers headed by the Yamuna, or the holy places headed by Kuruksetra?
Text 3

kim na sidhyati bhu-tale
brahmano brahma-varcasvi

What perfection is not attained in this world by the mercy of this prayer? By its mercy a brahmana becomes powerful as the demigod Brahma and a ksatriya becomes king of the world.
Texts 4 and 5

By its mercy a vaisya becomes the master of great wealth and a Sudra becomes free from his low birth. By its mercy one becomes free from a host of sins beginning with killing a brahmana, drinking wine, and committing theft. O queen of the demigods, it is true. There is no doubt it is true. In this world there is nothing equal to the thousand names of Sri Radha.

A person who reads or hears this prayer on the astami day of the month of Karttika lives in Vaikuntha for thousands of yugas. He goes to Brahma's abode, Siva's abode, and Indra's abode. A person who on the Ganges shore reads or hears this prayer attains a spiritual form like that of Lord Visnu. O queen of the demigods, it is true! It is true! This prayer, called the thousand names of Sri Radha, is a river born on the mountain of my words that now takes shelter in the mouth of Sri Parvati, a river that purifies the three worlds. I regularly read this prayer with devotion, as far as I am able.

He does not take birth again.
