Hari-nāma Cintāmaṇi - Bhaktivinoda Thakura
Hari-nāma Cintāmaṇi – Chapter Four
Nāmāparādha – Sādhu-nindā
(Offences to the Holy Name – Criticising Sādhus)
satāṁ nindā nāmnaḥ paramam aparādhaṁ vitanute
yataḥ khyātiṁ yātaṁ katham u sahate tad‑vigarhām
Criticising devotees is the greatest offence that one can make to the Holy Name. The Name can never tolerate condemnation of those who spread His glories?
(1)
gadādhara-prāṇa jaya jāhnavā-jīvana
jaya sītānātha śrīvāsādi bhakta-jana
Glories to the Life of Gadādhara and to the Life of Jāhnavā! Glories to the Lord of Sītā. Glories to Śrīvāsa and the devotees.
(2)
prabhu bale haridāsa ebe sa-vistāra
nāma aparādha vyākhyā kara ataḥpara
The Lord said, “Hari Dāsa, now explain in detail the offences to the Holy Name.”
(3)
haridāsa bale prabhu more yā balābe
tāhāi baliba āmi tomāra prabhāve
Hari Dāsa said, “Lord, by Your potency, I will say whatever You make me say.

Daśa-vidha nāmāparādha (The Ten Types of Offences to the Holy Name)
(4)
nāma aparādha daśa-vidha śāstre kaya
sei aparādhe mora baḍa haya bhaya
“In the śāstra it is said that there are ten types of offenses to the Holy Name. I greatly fear these offenses. (1)
(1) These are the ten offences – (1) Criticising Sādhus. (2) Considering the Devas to be independent, and considering Kṛṣṇa’s name, form, qualities and pastimes to be different from Kṛṣṇa Himself. (3) Disregarding the guru who reveals nāma-tattva. (4) Offending the śāstra that describes the glories of the Holy Name. (5) To create imaginary meanings to the Holy Name when the śāstra has already described the glories and results of the Holy Name. (6) Performing pāpa on the strength of chanting the Name. (7) Giving instructions on the Name to those who lack śraddhā. (8) Equating hari-nāma with mundane auspicious activities. (9) Being inattentive when chanting the Holy Name. (10) Addiction to the concept of “I and mine” even after knowing the glories of the Name and showing no love for Him.
(5)
eka eka kari āmi baliba sakala
aparādhe vāṅci yāte deha more bala
“Please give me the strength so that one by one, I can speak about all these offences.
(6-8)
sādhu-nindā anya-deva svātantrya manana
nāma tattva guru āra śāstra vinindana
hari-nāme artha-vāda kalpita manana
nāma-bale pāpa śraddhā-hīne nāmārpaṇa
anya śubha-karmera samāna kṛṣṇa-nāma
e kathā balile aparādha aviśrāma
Criticising sādhus, considering the various Devas to be independent (of Kṛṣṇa), showing disrespect to the nāma-tattva guru and the śāstra, creating a mundane interpretation of hari-nāma, or considering the Name to be imaginary, performing pāpa on the strength of the Name, giving the Holy Name to those without śraddhā, and equating kṛṣṇa-nāma with auspicious material activities. I will now continue to explain these offences.
(9)
nāmete anavadhāna haya aparādha
tāhāke purāṇa kartā balena pramāda
“The author of the Purāṇas (Vyāsa) states that anyone who is inattentive to these offences is insane.
(10)
nāmera māhātmya jāne tabu nāhi bhaje
ahaṁ mama āsaktite saṁsārete maje
“One who knows the glories of the Holy Name but does not worship Him, and remains attached to the concept of `I’ and `mine’ becomes immersed in the world of repeated birth and death.

Sādhu-nindāi prathama aparādha (The First Offence – Criticising Sādhus)
(11)
sādhu-nindā prathamāparādha bali’ jāni
ei aparādhe jīvera haya sarva hāni
“Now I will speak about the first offence – criticising sādhus. Bt this offence everything is ruined for the jīva.
Svarūpa o taṭastha lakṣaṇa bhede sādhu lakṣaṇa dvaya vicāra
(Deliberating Upon the Two Symptoms of a Sādhu – the Natural and Marginal Qualities)
(12)
sādhura lakṣaṇa tumi baliyācha prabho
ekādaśe uddhavere kṛṣṇa-rūpe vibho
“O Lord, in the form of Kṛṣṇa, You have explained the qualities of a sādhu to Uddhava in the Eleventh Canto (of the Bhāgavatam).
(13-16)
dayālu sahiṣṇu sama droha-śūnya-vrata

apramatta sugambhīra vijita ṣaḍ-guṇa
amānī mānada dakṣa avañcaka jñānī
ei saba lakṣaṇete sādhu bali jāni
“He is compassionate, tolerant, impartial, devoid of malice, the very essence of truthfulness, pure-hearted, benevolent to others, unagitated by desires, intelligent, mild-mannered, disinterested in material possessions, polite, clean, regulated in his eating, peaceful at heart, without worldly desires, sense-controlled, exclusively surrendered to Kṛṣṇa, vigilant, very sober, victorious over the six urges, prideless, respectful, expert, non-duplicit and wise. I declare that I know a sādhu to have all these symptoms.
(17)
ei saba lakṣaṇa prabho haya dvi-prakāra
svarūpa taṭastha bhede kariba vicāra
“O Lord, all these qualities are of two kinds – svarūpa (natural) and taṭastha (marginal). Now I will describe them both. (2)
(2) Direct attributes found within an object are called its svarūpa-lakṣaṇa. Other qualities in relation to that object, which are like ‘guests,’ that may arise in that object are known as taṭastha–lakṣaṇa.

Svarūpa-lakṣaṇai pradhāna lakṣaṇa, tad-āśraye taṭastha-lakṣaṇa udaya haya
(The Svarūpa Lakṣaṇa is the Principle Quality, and When Taṭastha Lakṣaṇas Arise, They Take Shelter of it)
(18)
kṛṣṇaika-śaraṇa haya svarūpa-lakṣaṇa
taṭastha lakṣaṇe anya guṇera gaṇana
“Exclusive surrender to Kṛṣṇa is the only svarūpa-lakṣaṇa. All other qualities are counted as taṭastha-lakṣaṇa.
(19)
kona bhāgye sādhu-saṅge nāme ruci haya
kṛṣṇa-nāma gāya kare kṛṣṇa-pādāśraya
“When by good fortune someone attains the company of sādhus and a taste for the Holy Name, they chant kṛṣṇa-nāma and take shelter of Kṛṣṇa’s feet.
(20)
svarūpa lakṣaṇa sei haita haila
gāite gāite nāma anya guṇa āila
“This becomes the svarūpa-lakṣaṇa. By continuous chanting of the Holy Name, other good qualities come.
(21)
anya guṇa-gaṇa tāi taṭastha gaṇana
avaśya vaiṣṇava dehe habe saṅghaṭana
“All other qualities are counted as taṭastha. They will certainly appear in the body of a Vaiṣṇava.
Varṇāśrama liṅga, nānā-prakāra veśa-dvārā sādhutva haya nā, kṛṣṇaika-śaraṇatāi sādhura lakṣaṇa (One Does not Become a Sādhu by the External Signs of Varṇāśrama and Various Kinds of Clothing – the Symptom of a Sādhu is Exclusive Surrender to Kṛṣṇa)
(22)
varṇāśrama cihna nānā-veṣera racanā
sādhura lakṣaṇe kabhu nā haya gaṇanā
“Varṇāśrama is comprised of various kinds of clothing and paraphernalia, but these are not counted amongst the qualities of a sādhu.
(23)
śrī-kṛṣṇa-śaraṇāgati sādhura lakṣaṇa
tāra mukhe haya kṛṣṇa-nāma-saṅkīrtana
“The quality of a sādhu is śrī-kṛṣṇa-śaraṇāgati (surrender unto Śrī Kṛṣṇa). From his mouth comes kṛṣṇa-nāma-saṅkīrtana.
(24)
gṛhī brahmacārī vānaprastha nyāsi-bhede
śūdra vaiśya kṣatra vipra-gaṇera prabhede
“Gṛhī, brahmacārī, vānaprastha, and nyāsī are the first division (of varṇāśrama). Śūdra, vaiṣya, kṣatra, and vipra are the second division. (3)
(3) Those who marry within their own varṇa are called gṛhasthas. Those who practice celibacy before marriage are called brahmacārīs. One who leaves for the forest in his old age is called a vānaprastha. One who becomes renounced and leaves his home is called a nyāsī or a sannyāsī.
Note: there are many that think Grhastha asrama is an excuse for illicit sex, actually that is Grhamedhi life, a real Grhastha does not touch his wife only for having children, and as this is maybe only one two children that is once or twice and that sex is religious sex life, otherwise real grhasthas have no sex, they are celibate and Srila Bhaktivinoda Thakura describes such grhasthas to be another kind of sannyasis, they also chant 64 rounds daily and are called Sad Grhasthas, a sannyasi should only take prasadam cooked from such sad Grhasthas ,Lord Caitanya only accept prasadam from those who chanted minimum 64 rounds daily and pure devotees do the same they only like to take prasadam offered and cooked to Krsna if the devotee is chanting 64 rounds daily

These instructions are neglected in ISKCON and Gaudiya math :
n Shri Chaitanya-bhagavata, Antya Khanda 9.121-122, Lord Chaitanya Mahaprabhu instructed everyone on whose worship and service He will accept:

(121) prabhu bale,-"jana, 'lakshesvara' bali kare?
prati-dina laksha-nama ye grahana kare"

"Do you know who is a laksesvara? He is someone who chants one laksa or 100,000 holy names (64 rounds of the Hare Krishna maha-mantra) everyday."

Purport by Shrila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakura Prabhupada:

shri gaurasundera balibena-"jini pratidina laksha-nama grahana karibena, tanharai grihe bhagavan sevita hana.

Shri Gaurasundera spoke as follows-"The Supreme Personality of Godhead accepts service only in the home of those who chant one hundred thousand names daily.

"bhagavan tanharai nikate bhoga-dravyadi grahana karena.

"The Lord accepts bhoga (foodstuffs) and other ingredients only from such personalities.

"jini laksha-nama grahana karena na, tahara nikate haite bhagavan naivedya svikara-dvara seva-saubhagya pradana karena na.

"Those who don't chant 100,000 names (64 rounds) daily, are never awarded the great fortune of rendering service to the Lord by offering Him naivedya (bhoga). This is because the Lord never accepts (svikara) their offerings.

Shrila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakura Prabhupada:

"bhagavad-bhakta matrei pratyaha laksha-nama grahana karibena natuva vividha visaye asakta haiya bhagavad-seva karite asamartha haibena."

The Lord continued-"Those who consider themselves devotees of the Lord must compulsorily chant 100,000 names of Krishna everyday otherwise they will gradually but surely become attached to varieties of sense-objects and thus become incapable to rendering any kind of service to the Lord."

Shrila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakura Prabhupada:

tajjanyai shri chaitanyadevera ashrita sakalai nyuna kalpe laksha-nama grahana kariya thakena. natuva gaurasunderera udeshya pradatta naivedya tini grahana karibena na.

(Shrila Sarasvati Thakura Prabhupada continues) "Therefore all the devotees who have taken shelter of Lord Chaitanyadeva perform the chanting of a minimum of 100,000 names of Krishna daily as their first and primary duty. Because they know that if they don't do so then Lord Gaurasundera will never accept the very bhoga (naivedya) which they cook for Him daily.

(122) "se janera nama ami bali 'lakshesvara'
tatha bhiksha amara, na yai anya ghara."

"Lord Gauranga continued-I call such a person a laksheshvara. I only accept meals in such a person's house. I never go anywhere else."

Purport by Shrila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakura Prabhupada:

shri chaitanya bhaktagana abhaktera sahita sambhashana karena na. jini bhaktivyatita karma, jnana o anyabhilashara kathaya pradatta tahara sahita bandhutva karibe na.

"The devotees of Lord Shri Chaitanya never talk with such non-devotees. They never do friendship with those who are engaged in the cultivation of karma, jnana or other desires which are devoid of bhakti.

pratyah laksha-nama grahana na karile patita vyaktiganera visaya-bhoga pravritti vriddhi paya, takhana ara tahara shri gaurasunderarera seva karite pare na.

"Those who don't accept this vow of chanting 100,000 names daily, fall down even more although they were fallen in the first place (due to the contamination of Kali-yuga). Thus their propensity for enjoying the senses and sense-objects continually and steadily increases and ultimately they are not able to render any kind of service even to the most merciful Lord Gaurasundera.

lakshesvara vyatita gaura-bhaktira adarsa gaudiyajana kehai svikara karena na.

"This is the precise reason why the real Gaudiya-bhaktas do not accept any other ideal (adarsa) in Gaura-bhakti or Krishna-bhakti except the process of chanting 100,000 names of the maha-mantra daily.
Shrila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakura Prabhupada:

adhapatita va adhapete gana eka-matra bhajana-sabda-vacya shri-nama-bhajane vimukhata-vasata laksha-nama grahana karibara parivarte anya bhajanera chalana korena, taddvara tahadera kona mangala haya na.

"Those spiritual aspirants who are already fallen or will fall down from spiritual life in the future are averse to this sole means of deliverance called nama-bhajana, which is the worship of the sound incarnation of God in the form of chanting 100,000 names of the the Holy Names daily. Coming under the sway of their averseness to chant laksha-nama daily, they duplicitously invent (chalana) other means of devotional service (bhajana) to justify their not chanting 100,000 names daily but it is to be clearly understood that by this action they will not achieve anything auspicious (mangala) in their spiritual life."
In my house I have Srila Prabhupadas Japa chanting going on 24 hours a day and I chant minimum 64 rounds daily :
avisranta name nama-aparadha jaya;

tahe aparadha kabhu sthana nahi paya.

"Only by continuous chanting of the Hare Krishna Mahamantra day and night can the ten offenses against Krishna's Name be obliterated. By the constant chanting of Krishna's Name, the ten offenses will not be able to again implicate the chanter."

Purport by Shrila Bhaktivinoda Thakura:

"Continuous chanting (avisranta nama)- Only one who chants the Name with great feeling all the time during the day and night except during the time required for fulfilling the most basic bodily necessities like sleep etc. is able to successfully destroy the ten offenses."
(25)

“When one has the qualities of a sādhu, it is not determined (by these divisions of varṇāśrama). The śāstra ordains that one is a sādhu due to his exclusive surrender to Kṛṣṇa.

(4) Raghunātha Dāsa was the ornament on the head of the Kāyastha dynasty. A native of Saptagrāma, he is known as ‘Dāsa Gosvāmī’ and is counted amongst the Six Gosvāmīs.
(27)

“`Give up monkey-like renunciation and showing off to the public. Whatever material things are appropriate, for now you should accept them without attachment. (5)
(5) A person in whose heart steady renunciation has not yet appeared, but who externally wears kaupīna, sannyāsa cloth etc, bears the markings of a markaṭa-vairāgi (a monkey renunciant).
(29)

“’Deep within yourself remain focused, but externally you may behave like an ordinary man. Very soon, Śrī Kṛṣṇa will save you.’

Note :Srila Narottama das Thakura taught all disciples to chant 64 rounds daily no matter what asrama they were in
SRILA LOKANATHA GOSVAMI TO HIS DISICPLE SHRILA NAROTTAMA :

From Prema-vilasa Chapter 11:

(Note: Both Shrila Prabhupada and Shrila Sarasvati Thakura Prabhupada have accepted Prema-vilasa as a bonafide scripture in their commentaries to Shri Chaitanya-charitamrita Adi-lila 13.60 purport.)

je vaishnava haibe laibe harinama;
sankhya kari nama laile, kripa karena gauradhama.

"Those who are Vaishavas must chant the Holy Names in a particular number everyday. Then Lord Gauranga, the supreme Abode of love will be merciful to them.

WHAT IS THAT NUMBER?

purva abhipraye sabe laha harinama;
keha laksha viseshatah mukhe gana.

"Everyone should specifically chant or sing the name loudly 100,000 times a day (64 rounds) with the mood I have described earlier.

EMPOWERMENT:

narottama laksha nama laya sankhya kari;
nama laile gaurangera sarva sakti dhari.

"O my disciple, Narottama! Please chant 100,000 names everyday while maintaining their count. If you chant in this way then you will become empowered by all the potencies of Lord Gauranga Mahaprabhu."

:

kali-kalera dharma--krishna-nama-sankirtana;
krishna-sakti vina nahe tara pravartana.
(Cc Antya-lila 7.11)

"The fundamental religious system in the Age of Kali is the chanting of the Hare Krishna maha-mantra. Unless empowered by Krishna, one cannot propagate the chanting of the Hare Krishna maha-mantra.

So from the above two verses, it becomes very clear that if one has to widely propogate the glories of the Holy Names, one has to get Krishna-shakti or Gauranga-shakti which is acquired when one completes the chanting of 100,000 names daily, according to Shrila Lokanatha Goswami.

ACHIEVE THE LOTUS FEET OF KRiShNA:

krishna pada prapti laksha laile harinama;
granthi purna haile eka karibe pranama.

"I again repeat that if you want to achieve the lotus feet of Lord Krishna, then you have to chant 100,000 names daily. After chanting four rounds (one granthi) or one round, you should offer obeisances to the Hare Krishna maha-mantra.

Gṛha-tyāgī sādhu-lakṣaṇa (The Qualities of the Sādhu Who has Renounced Household Life)
(30)

“Later, when you saw that he had accepted renunciation, You gave him these instructions which are wonderful to hear –
(31)

“’Do not listen to common talk and do not speak such words. Do not eat luxuriously nor dress nicely.
(32)

“’Do not expect any honour, but offer all respect to others. Always chant kṛṣṇa-nāma, and within your mind render service to Rādhā-Krṣṇa in Vṛndāvana.’
Note Lord Caitanyas instruction for Grhasthas are they should become pure devotees of Sri Sri Radha Krsna ,it is not only for sannyasis
Gṛhī o gṛha-tyāgī – ubhayera-i svarūpa lakṣaṇa (The One Quality Shared by Both the Householder and Renunciate)
(33)
svarūpa lakṣaṇa eka sarvatra samāna

“The svarūpa-lakṣaṇa is the one quality that is respected everywhere. The differences of āśrama etc. are taṭastha.
(34)
ananya-śaraṇe yadi dekhi durācāra
tathāpi se sādhu bali sevya sabākāra
“If I see someone who has completely surrendered (to Kṛṣṇa) behaving badly, I will still say, `He is a sādhu.’ Everyone should serve him. (6)
(6) Taking exclusive refuge in Kṛṣṇa and no one is else is the svarūpa-lakṣaṇa of bhakti. Whoever has this certainly has taṭastha-lakṣaṇas. But if someone takes exclusive shelter of Kṛṣṇa, the taṭastha-lakṣaṇas may only manifest in him partly, and not completely – thus it is observed that some misconduct may be there in him, yet he is still a sādhu.
Note real Sadhus chant minimum 64 rounds as this is Lord Caitanyas order if they follow this strictly then even there might be some small mistakes they soon will recify because Lord Caitanya is in the heart of all His devotees ,those not chanting 64 rounds daily are patitta , and the only way to rectify is to come up to standard
(35)

“Traces of previous pāpa may still remain in him for some days, but by the power of the Holy Name they too are eventually destroyed. (7)
(7) When there is a taste for the Holy Name (nāma-ruci) the results of previous pāpa cannot remain. A trace of previous pāpa may remain, but they will also be destroyed after a few days.
Note :we see many neophytes pretending to be very advanced they hardly chant 16 rounds daily and engage in the 7th offense, Vamsi Das Babaji used to throw stones at those who were not lakesvaras so they would stay away from him, Srila Gaura Kisora das Babaji used to hide in toilets in Mayapure to chant in peace ye only opene the door to associate with devotees chanting 64 rounds daily ,one of the few devoteees to get the association of Srila Gaura Kisora das Babaji was Srila Bhakti Prajana Kesva Maharaja and his Guru Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Prabhupada because they always chanted 54 rounds or more daily
(39)

pūrva-pāpa lakṣi punaḥ avajñā ācare
“Seeing his transgressions, they may criticise that sādhu. Also, pointing out his previous bad deeds, they may show contempt towards him. (8)
(8) If one is fixated on a devotee’s previous pāpa before he surrendered to the Lord, or on that pāpa which remains but is almost eradicated, then this is considered to be criticism of a Vaiṣṇava and is a great offence.
(42)
sei ta pāṣaṇḍī vaiṣṇavera nindā doṣe

(9) Dambha-avatāra (‘The avatāra of arrogance’) refers to proud people that wrap themselves in the flag of religiosity (dharma-dhvajīs), who dress like sādhus only to live comfortably.
Note : real Vaisnavas are very humble see Srila Bhaktivinoda Thakuras Saranagati about Dainya , humility , those who are not humle do nto chant one lahk daily as they are not real Vaisnavas ,only pretenders

(10) Hlādinī (pleasure-giving potency) and sandhinī (knowledge potency) merge and become the bhakti-śakti (potency of devotion). Bhakti is acquired in this way – a siddha-bhakta (perfected devotee) transmits the bhakti-śakti to a sādhaka-bhakta (practising devotee). Then he becomes perfect and transmits bhakti to other sādhaka-jīvas. By specifically engaging in the spiritual activities of bhakti, the ātmā eventually becomes situated in perfection. When the ātmā is free from aversion to bhakti and is inclined towards it, then a perfected devotee, who is full of mercy, transmits bhakti to that ātmā. This is a secret.

Of course, that has given rise to the Anti-Semite movement that Jews are not the greatest and even to the hatred against Jews ,that is also wrong
I found there are some Jewish Hare Krsna are very envious of us Non Jew Hare Krsnas : They murdered Jesus Christ who was their Messiah
You try to trace out the history of the world, you’ll find always persons who are for Krsna or God, they have been persecuted. Lord Jesus Christ was crucified, Haridasa Thakura was caned in twenty-two market places, Prahlada Maharaja was tortured by his father. So there may be such things. Of course, Krsna will protect us. So don’t be afraid. Don’t be afraid if somebody tortures us, somebody teases us. We must go on with Krsna consciousness without any hesitation, and Krsna will give us protect.

Our European ancestors have warned us do not lets Jews control your life and money etc, I can understand from being 40 years in ISKCON why they said so ,anyone who is in the bodily concept of life and think I am Jew not a spirit soul should not be taken as a devotee of Lord Caitanya ,Dhanudhara Swami was removed from ISKCON due to his child abuses and many Vaisnava Aparadhas

अहो बत श्वपचोऽतो गरीयान्

aho bata śva-paco ’to garīyān
yaj-jihvāgre vartate nāma tubhyam

Synonyms
aho bata — oh, how glorious; śva-pacaḥ — a dog-eater; ataḥ — hence; garīyān — worshipable; yat — of whom; jihvā-agre — on the tip of the tongue; vartate — is; nāma — the holy name; tubhyam — unto You; tepuḥ tapaḥ — practiced austerities; te — they; juhuvuḥ — executed fire sacrifices; sasnuḥ — took bath in the sacred rivers; āryāḥ — Āryans; brahma anūcuḥ — studied the Vedas; nāma — the holy name; gṛṇanti — accept; ye — they who; te — Your.
Translation
Oh, how glorious are they whose tongues are chanting Your holy name! Even if born in the families of dog-eaters, such persons are worshipable. Persons who chant the holy name of Your Lordship must have executed all kinds of austerities and fire sacrifices and achieved all the good manners of the Āryans. To be chanting the holy name of Your Lordship, they must have bathed at holy places of pilgrimage, studied the Vedas and fulfilled everything required.
Purport
As it is stated in the previous verse, a person who has once offenselessly chanted the holy name of God becomes immediately eligible to perform Vedic sacrifices. One should not be astonished by this statement of Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam. One should not disbelieve or think, “How by chanting the holy name of the Lord can one become a holy man to be compared to the most elevated brāhmaṇa?” To eradicate such doubts in the minds of unbelievers, this verse affirms that the stage of chanting the holy name of the Lord is not sudden, but that the chanters have already performed all kinds of Vedic rituals and sacrifices. It is not very astounding, for no one in this life can chant the holy name of the Lord unless he has passed all lower stages, such as performing the Vedic ritualistic sacrifices, studying the Vedas and practicing good behavior like that of the Āryans. All this must first have been done. Just as a student in a law class is to be understood to have already graduated from general education, anyone who is engaged in the chanting of the holy name of the Lord — Hare Kṛṣṇa, Hare Kṛṣṇa, Kṛṣṇa Kṛṣṇa, Hare Hare/ Hare Rāma, Hare Rāma, Rāma Rāma, Hare Hare — must have already passed all lower stages. It is said that those who simply chant the holy name with the tip of the tongue are glorious. One does not even have to chant the holy name and understand the whole procedure, namely the offensive stage, offenseless stage and pure stage; if the holy name is sounded on the tip of the tongue, that is also sufficient. It is said herein that nāma, a singular number, one name, Kṛṣṇa or Rāma, is sufficient. It is not that one has to chant all the holy names of the Lord. The holy names of the Lord are innumerable, and one does not have to chant all the names to prove that he has already undergone all the processes of Vedic ritualistic ceremonies. If one chants once only, it is to be understood that he has already passed all the examinations, not to speak of those who are chanting always, twenty-four hours a day. It is specifically said here, tubhyam: “unto You only.” One must chant God’s name, not, as the Māyāvādī philosophers say, any name, such as a demigod’s name or the names of God’s energies. Only the holy name of the Supreme Lord will be effective. Anyone who compares the holy name of the Supreme Lord to the names of the demigods is called pāṣaṇḍī, or an offender.
The holy name has to be chanted to please the Supreme Lord, and not for any sense gratification or professional purpose. If this pure mentality is there, then even though a person is born of a low family, such as a dog-eater’s, he is so glorious that not only has he purified himself, but he is quite competent to deliver others. He is competent to speak on the importance of the transcendental name, just as Ṭhākura Haridāsa did. He was apparently born in a family of Muhammadans, but because he was chanting the holy name of the Supreme Lord offenselessly, Lord Caitanya empowered him to become the authority, or ācārya, of spreading the name. It did not matter that he was born in a family which was not following the Vedic rules and regulations. Caitanya Mahāprabhu and Advaita Prabhu accepted him as an authority because he was offenselessly chanting the name of the Lord. Authorities like Advaita Prabhu and Lord Caitanya immediately accepted that he had already performed all kinds of austerities, studied the Vedas and performed all sacrifices. That is automatically understood. There is a hereditary class of brāhmaṇas called the smārta-brāhmaṇas, however, who are of the opinion that even if such persons who are chanting the holy name of the Lord are accepted as purified, they still have to perform the Vedic rites or await their next birth in a family of brāhmaṇas so that they can perform the Vedic rituals. But actually that is not the case. Such a man does not need to wait for the next birth to become purified. He is at once purified. It is understood that he has already performed all sorts of rites. It is the so-called brāhmaṇas who actually have to undergo different kinds of austerities before reaching that point of purification. There are many other Vedic performances which are not described here. All such Vedic rituals have been already performed by the chanters of the holy name.
The word juhuvuḥ means that the chanters of the holy name have already performed all kinds of sacrifices. Sasnuḥ means that they have already traveled to all the holy places of pilgrimage and taken part in purificatory activities at those places. They are called āryāḥ because they have already finished all these requirements, and therefore they must be among the Āryans or those who have qualified themselves to become Āryans. Āryan refers to those who are civilized, whose manners are regulated according to the Vedic rituals. Any devotee who is chanting the holy name of the Lord is the best kind of Āryan. Unless one studies the Vedas, one cannot become an Āryan, but it is automatically understood that the chanters have already studied all the Vedic literature. The specific word used here is anūcuḥ, which means that because they have already completed all those recommended acts, they have become qualified to be spiritual masters.
The very word gṛṇanti, which is used in this verse, means to be already established in the perfectional stage of ritualistic performances. If one is seated on the bench of a high court and is giving judgment on cases, it means that he has already passed all legal exams and is better than those who are engaged in the study of law or those expecting to study law in the future. In a similar way, persons who are chanting the holy name are transcendental to those who are factually performing the Vedic rituals and those who expect to be qualified (or, in other words, those who are born in families of brāhmaṇas but have not yet undergone the reformatory processes and who therefore expect to study the Vedic rituals and perform the sacrifices in the future).
There are many Vedic statements in different places saying that anyone who chants the holy name of the Lord becomes immediately freed from conditional life and that anyone who hears the holy name of the Lord, even though born of a family of dog-eaters, also becomes liberated from the clutches of material entanglement.

“Considering those faults that have almost disappeared is also offensive. All this is ignorance and such a person will be punished by the rod of Yama. (11)
(11) Anyone who criticises a Vaiṣṇava’ birth, his faults due to occasional carelessness, the defects in him that have almost been eradicated, or faults in his character prior to his coming to the path of śaraṇāgati, is guilty of criticising a Vaiṣṇava, and is an offender of Vaiṣṇavas. Such a person will not attain nāma-ruci (a taste for the Holy Name). One who takes shelter of bhakti with śraddhā becomes a pure Vaiṣṇava. The aforementioned four types of faults can rarely be noticed in him. There is no possibility of any other faults in him.
Note : We should also not fault someone for being born in Jewish or African families ,that is all Vaisnava Aparadha

(12) To the extent that one is attracted to the Holy Name of Kṛṣṇa, he is a Vaiṣṇava.

“The śāstra says that bad association is of two types. Of the two, one of these is inappropriate association with females. (13)
(13) Shunning bad association is the primary conduct for a Vaiṣṇava. Bad association is of two types – improper association with women and with non-devotees. For the female devotee, improper association with a man is also said to be bad association. Illicit association with women and association with women according to religious principles are the two kinds of association with women.

“Keeping company with a man who is too attached to females is also counted as bad association. A jīva who avoids such company becomes fortunate. (14)
(14) Association with a man too attached to women is an obstacle to bhakti.
Note :see Lord Krsnas Aila Gita in 11 Canto of Srimad Bhagavatam ,I have left many temples in ISKCON where there was illicit sex, that includes ISKCON Boston and Toronto ISKCON LA,, ISKCON Scandinavia , in ISKCON Sweden my former Godbrother Tapan Misra had sex with a Guru kula boy , the devotees never notified the police that includes Harikesa who knew about this,In Mayapure in the 1970 and 80 there as lots of pedophiles and homosex in ISKCON Mayapure ,by Bhavananda and Satandhanya and Nitai Chand then socalled Swamis, Harikesa warned me if you complain about this you will be killed by Bhavanandas disciples such as Kadambha Kanana (he has another name back then )

“One who is not a devotee of Kṛṣṇa (abhakta) – this is the second type of bad association. This includes the māyāvādi, the dharma-dhvajī (religious hypocrites who wrap themselves in the flag of religion), and atheists. (15)
(15) Māyāvādī refers to those who do not consider the form of Bhagavān to be eternal, who believe that Kṛṣṇa and His other forms are comprised of māyā, and who think that the jīvas are also made of māyā. Dharma-dhvajī means those who internally have no bhakti or renunciation and dress deceptively only in order to make a living.

“Therefore, a respectable madhyama-vaiṣṇava must certainly serve this kind of sādhu constantly. (16)
(16) From the stage of a madhyama-vaiṣṇava one starts to give due consideration of who is a pure Vaiṣṇava. A madhyama has the eligibility to deliberate upon who is a Vaiṣṇava and who is not a Vaiṣṇava, because he needs to serve a pure Vaiṣṇava. If he gives up discriminating who is a Vaiṣṇava and who is not a Vaiṣṇava, then the madhyama–vaiṣṇava will commit an offense to the Vaiṣṇavas. With earnestness, he should seek out a pure Vaiṣṇava and serve him. When an uttama-vaiṣṇava makes no distinction between a Vaiṣṇava and a non-Vaiṣṇava, then how can he serve the Vaiṣṇavas? The uttama-vaiṣṇava sees no difference between enemies and friends, therefore how can he distinguish between Vaiṣṇavas and non-Vaiṣṇavas?

“In consideration of one’s own qualification, one should abstain from the offence of criticising sādhus. (17)
(17) It is necessary to know one’s qualification by considering one’s own nature. Knowing this qualification and performing nāma-saṅkīrtana with fixed determination, is the dharma of a Vaiṣṇava.
(90)
