Bhagavad Gita 3.7 how changing Srila Prabhupadas books affects ISKCON

yas tv indriyani manasa niyamyarabhate 'rjuna karmendriyaih karma-yogam asaktah sa visisyate

SYNONYMS

yah--one who; tu--but; indriyani--senses; manasa--by the mind; niyamya--regulating; arabhate--begins; arjuna--O Arjuna; karma-indriyaih--by the active sense organs; karma-yogam--devotion; asaktah--without attachment; sah--he; visisyate--by far the better.

TRANSLATION

On the other hand, he who controls the senses by the mind and engages his active organs in works of devotion, without attachment, is by far superior.

PURPORT

Instead of becoming a pseudo-transcendentalist for the sake of wanton living and sense enjoyment, it is far better to remain in one's own business and execute the purpose of life, which is to get free from material bondage and enter into the kingdom of God. The prime svartha-gati, or goal of self-interest, is to reach Visnu. The whole institution of varna and asrama is designed to help us reach this goal of life. A householder can also reach this destination by regulated service in Krsna consciousness. For self-realization, one can live a controlled life, as prescribed in the sastras, and continue carrying out his business without attachment, and in that way make progress. Such a sincere person who follows this method is far better situated than the false pretender who adopts show-bottle spiritualism to cheat the innocent public. A sincere sweeper in the street is far better than the charlatan meditator who meditates only for the sake of making a living.

Sudama: Verse number seven: "On  the other hand, he who controls the senses by the mind and engages his active  organs in works of devotion without attachment is by far superior [Bg.  3.7]."

Prabhupada: Yes. Instead of  artificially trying to meditate and control the senses, just engage your senses  in the activities of Krsna consciousness and gradually you will be happy. Your  senses will be controlled. Go on.

If we take it, "Oh, it is very easy method for  living without working. We are getting money for our livelihood," this is not  wanted. If your spiritual life is for...
Just like there are so many  professional chanters. Not here. In India. Their business is... Because people  like chanting, so they have made this chanting business. Or professional  Bhagavata reader. People like reading of Bhagavata. There are many expert  Bhagavata readers. They can show many caricature just to attract people, and  such people, generally, they describe the rasa-lila of Krsna. Because rasa-lila  is resembling just like dealings between young boys and girls, so they take that  part, particularly, rasa-lila. Easy way.
And just like here in America,  I've seen so many persons. They are writing books on Krsna about Krsna's  pastimes with the gopis, as if Krsna has no other pastime. Because these things  are very easily saleable. So they are writing books on that. I've seen one book  written by Mr. Bhattacarya about these, Krsna's dealings with the gopis. No.  This is not good. You should not take Krsna's activities, Krsna consciousness,  professionally, for livelihood. That is dangerous. Your life should be sacrifice  for Krsna. That is wanted. Otherwise you shall be pretender. Yes, go  on.

Where in the Sanskrit does Krsna say "tries to control"  we have seen the outburst Jayadvaita Swami has when being confronted by the changes to the Bhagavad Gita: http://bookchanges.com/jayadvaita-swami-attacks-madhudvisa-dasa/ We have also experience of Jayadvaita Swamis uncontrolled temper many times.When I opposed the Gopi Bhava club with Tamal Krsna Maharaja/Bhurijana /Dhanudhara "Swami " and others , he told Bhakti Vikas Swami :Who is this Payonidhi anyway..his envy of me as a sankirtana devotee also came out in 2012 where he attacked me for organizing the distribution of 5000 On Chanting Hare Krsna at New York Ratha Yatra along with Palaka Prabhu and others. So he is not only failing to control but offending many vaisnavas in ISKCON by these bookchanges, that is also a huge offence to Srila Prabhupada. suggesting that such a sincere person  does not exist but if he does ":A sincere person " making a very subtle and dangerous change to the Philosophy of KC suggesting that  everyone is a pretender. Dravida in San Diego made a change to the 10 offences: "Anyone that claims to be a vaisnava must carefully guard against these 10 offences" to One must carefully guard against the 10 offences..or something of that nature, his mood being that none of us can dare claim to be vaisnavas.Another political mood of Dravida was to make anyone look like a demon that accepts that no jiva calls from Vaikuntha ..however Srila Prabhupada clearly stated that we should not worry if we came from Tatastha Sakti or Krsna loka.Gaura Govinda Maharaja was pressured by the BBT and GBC that unless you accept our point of view on this issue you must leave ISKCON also Satya Narayana Prabhu that now runs the Jiva institute in Vrindavana was forced out of ISKCON because he did not bow down to the opinions of Dravida...however Dravidas room mate a MR Caitanya Bhagavan das was found to be a homosexual while serving as the TP of ISKCON Potomac and he was also introducing all kind of bogus changes  to the philosophy/ The BBTI has made offences to many exalted vaisnavas such as HH Srila Sridhara Swami , Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Prabhupadas foremost sanyasa disciple, to HH Gaura Govinda Maharaja and to HH Narayana  Maharaja and many other vaisnavas no one in Gaudiya math agrees with the changes done to Srila Prabhupadas books.But the BBTI is also creating enemity towards the Gaudiya math of which ISKCON is also a branch.
 
Getting down to the philosophical part of this sloka we see how Srila Ramanujacarya has explained that it is better to be a grhastha that is renounced than a pseudo sannyasi. We have had some playboy Gurus in ISKCON that played around with BBT money and with female disciples ( engaging in illicit sex and stealing money from the BBT/ and using their socalled disciples to help maintain their lifestyle as incarnations of Krsna ( being equal and as good as Prabhupada and Krsna or even better _) this Is their offensive nonsense.It is still my view that it is the duty of every member in ISKCON to distribute Srila Prabhupadas original  books based on his purport to SB 7.9.44 .I am very thankfull to Madhuvisa Prabhu that for years have shown the bogus changes done to Srila Prabhupadas books

In contrast to this, the householder (not the sannyasi), who performs scriptural actions (karma yogam) without longing for fruits of his actions (asaktah) is superior .Sripada  Ramanujacarya says in this regard that he is superior to the person practicing jnana because of the impossibility of going astray

Now Lord Krishna reveals  that  a  person  performing  karma  yoga,  actions performed without attachment to the rewards  is  superior  to  the  cheating renunciate spoken of in the previous verse. That person who  performs  their actions  with the mind  offering  them  to  the  Supreme  Lord  is  properly performing karma yoga by which their mind  gradually  becomes  purified  and they develop spiritual knowledge.

Lord  Krishna  previously  spoke  of  the  pretensions  of  the   pretenders renouncing all actions with  great  effort  by  forcefully  subjugating  the desires of the mind. Now to  show  the  predominant  role  of  the  mind  in influencing our thoughts He uses the word manasa remembering in mind.  Karma yoga the yoga of actions is suitable according to the stage  of  development one  is  in.  One  should  not  think  that  karma  yoga  is  only  for  the grihastas or householders because by the word manasa it  is  asserting  that karma yoga can also be used by renunciates as well.

Controlling the senses by strength of mind,  utilising  them  to  assist  in achieving attma tattva by performing the  prescribed  duties  given  in  the Vedic scriptures according to the  natural  attributes  found  within  their character by the natural disposition of their natural  impulses,  then  that person although performing karma yoga the yoga of  actions  is  superior  to the performer of  jnana yoga the yoga of  cultivating knowledge inasmuch  as falsely performing jnana yoga with duplicity is far inferior  to  performing karma yoga with sincerity.

So the one performing actions without attachment is  the  best even the married householder who gradually through his actions controls his mind and senses is far superior to such  a  false renunciate. By diverting the  senses  from  sense  objects  by control of the mind one becomes eligible for contemplation  of the self which when unattached to  the  desire  for  anything, gradually leads one to be qualified for meditation on the atma or soul. So it is clear that the discipline of karma yoga  the practice  of  selfless  actions  is  essential  for  spiritual development.
