Why would Srila Prabhupada allow grains on Ramanavami in 1975 in Vrindavana ?
Many devotees were present on the installation of Sri Sri Krsna Balarama ,Sri Sri Gaura Nitai, and Radha Shyamasundara and they were served a feast of grains prasadam,,, Sastra says if a Guru makes an exception he can do so
if he is a great Acarya but did Srila Prabhupada really give the order to serve grains on Ramanavami when it is clearly a forbidden and demoniac act according to Sastra .In India to this day followers of Sanatana Dharma fast on Ramanavami and do not take a drop of water until the next morning .In Hari Bhakti Vilasa Srila Sanatana Goswami has quoted some Purana that states :
yastu rama navamyam hi
bhunkte mohad vimudhdhih /
kumbhi pakesu ghoresu
pacyate natra samsayah // HBV 14.244 //,
“A foolish person, who out of illusion, takes food on Rama Navami will fall down and rot in the formidable hell know as Kumbhipaka. Of this there is no doubt
Serving Ekadasi prasadam is ok but not grains Sastra says clearly :
yani kani ca papani brahma hatyadikani ca
annam asritya tiathanti samprapte hari vasare
“Every type of sin in this world, including the grievous sin of killing a Brahmana, reside in food grains on the Day of Lord Hari (Ekadasi and Visnutattva fasting days). If grains are eaten on fasting days sins enter the body of that human being.”
These are not just smarta rules this is Sastra and anyone ANYONE WHO DOES NOT ACCEPT this is an ASURA , yes an asura .
Now Srila Prabhupada invited prominent Vaisnavas that surely would be fasting on Ramanavami, then in the world would he misrepresent Sanatana Dharma ? Was Srila Prabhupada old and senile in 1975 and made a mistake? Right away we will get offended with such a statement and say no way...then what happened? Was it Srila Prabhupadas disciples the just went ahead and served grains on Ramanavami without Srila Prabhupada's permission? It does not appear so from what I read in Hari Sauris's journal ,however what we know is Srila Prabhupada NEVER ever gave any written instructions to take grains on Ramanavami and if he had it would have been asat as it is opposed to Srila Prabhupada I personally do not believe Srila Prabhupada took grains on Ramanavami ,I do know Srila Prabhupadas disciples took grains on Ramanavami in 1975, Bhakti Vikas Swami also told me he was there..but Srila Prabhupadas instruction is clear do not take grains on Ramanavami ,,so if you are suicidal you can use the opening on Krsna Balarama temple and stuff your stupid face in Mahaprasadam cakes on Ramanavami
A Transcendental Diary Vol 1 - Hari Sauri dasa (New-2003)
Chapter Eleven, Sri Vrndavana Dhama
Tamala Krsna: So there will be an initiation on Rama-navami.
Prabhupada: Rama-navami is upavasa up till the... Go to observe fasting up to the evening.
Tamala Krsna: So moon.
Prabhupada: Sunset.
Tamala Krsna: Sunset, moonrise.
Prabhupada: Authorized.
Tamala Krsna: Caitanya Mahaprabhu, Lord Ramacandra, and Nrsimhadeva also? Those three.
Serving grains on Visnutattva days is detrimental to spiritual life and we should follow Srila Prabhupada and sastra :I am not much fond of the idea of changing things to accommodate the
public — better to change the public to accommodate us.”
(Letter to Bali-mardana — Bombay, December 28, 1971) Srila Prabhupada already said Ramanavami should be observed like Gaura Purnima fasting till evening and then only Ekadasi prasadam
Room Conversation, March 26, 1977, Bombay
So far the Advent Day of Lord Rama Candra, it should be celebrated as Lord Caitanya's Birthday was done. Fasting up to evening, and then take prasadam, and chant Hare Krishna whole day, and be engaged in reading and chanting off and on, chant for some time, then read for some time, then again have Kirtana and so on, throughout the day. If you have not got a Ramayana, then you can read Bhagavad-gita or Srimad-Bhagavatam, that is all right.
68-03-28.Letter: Mahapurusa
"Lord Caitanya's Appearance day falls on March 22 (1970), that is on a Sunday. The devotees should fast until evening, when there is a ceremony and offering of a small amount of Ekadasi preparations. The next day, the devotees should celebrate amongst themselves with a small scale feast. You may hold the celebration open to the public on the following Sunday. The preparation to be offered specially on this occasion is bhuni kichri: Fry equal parts dal and rice in ghee and massala. Add two times water as dal and rice, and add vegetables (if you use more ghee, use less water). Cook it until it is dried and the rice is soft."(Letter to Krishna dasa. 18th February 1970. Los Angeles.)
