seeing through the eyes of scriptures

PAMHO
AGTSP

I caught part of the Bhagavatam class this morning from ISKCON LA ,here is a comment to Svavasa Prabhu question if someone will actually hit their head on a rock in seperation of Lord Caitanya.

what is that  mad stage of love of God? :

pāṣāṇe kuṭibo māthā anale paśibo
gaurāńga guṇera nidhi kothā gele pābo
I will smash my head against the rock and enter into the fire. Where will I find Lord Gauranga, the reservoir of all wonderful qualities?

We know Lord Caitanya rupped His lotusface in the Gambhira in seperation from Krsna ,well has any devotee actually smashed his head in seperation from Lord Caitanya? Yes Srila Raghunath das Goswami was about to jumb from Govardhana in mad seperation from Lord Caitanya and Srila Rupa Goswami stopped him. Conditioned soul are mad after the material world ,but there is no hapiness in the material world it is an illusion

The madness of the uttama adhikari is called Unmada here is some examples from Srila Prabhupadas books http://sanskritdictionary.org/unmada

then there is Pramattah the stage   conditioned souls are familar with madness for material life .

http://sanskritdictionary.org/pramattah

here is an example of unmada:

TEXT 87
rādhikā-unmāda yaiche uddhava-darśane
udghūrṇā-pralāpa taiche prabhura rātri-dine
SYNONYMS
rādhikā-unmāda—the madness of Śrīmatī Rādhārāṇī; yaiche—just like; uddhava-darśane—in seeing Uddhavaudghūrṇā-pralāpa—talking inconsistently in madness; taiche—similarly; prabhura—of Lord Caitanyarātri-dine—night and day.
TRANSLATION
Just as Śrīmatī Rādhārāṇī talked inconsistently with a bumblebee in the presence of Uddhava, Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu in His ecstasy talked crazily and inconsistently day and night.
PURPORT
This unmāda (madness) is not ordinary madness. When Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu talked inconsistently, almost like a crazy fellow, He was in the transcendental ecstasy of love. In the highest transcendental ecstasy there is a feeling of being enchanted in the presence of the enchanter. When the enchanter and the enchanted become separated, mohana, or bewilderment, occurs. When so bewildered due to separation, one becomes stunned, and at that time all the bodily symptoms of transcendental ecstasy are manifested. When they are manifest, one appears inconceivably crazy. This is called transcendental madness. In this state, there is imaginative discourse, and one experiences emotions like those of a madman. The madness of Śrīmatī Rādhārāṇī was explained to Kṛṣṇa by Uddhava, who said, "My dear Kṛṣṇa, because of extreme feelings of separation from You, Śrīmatī Rādhārāṇī is sometimes making Her bed in the groves of the forest, sometimes rebuking a bluish cloud, and sometimes wandering about in the dense darkness of the forest. Thus She has become like a crazy woman."

then there is the madness of material love and affection :called Pramatha: SB 5.5 TEXT 4
nūnaṁ pramattaḥ kurute vikarma
yad indriya-prītaya āpṛṇoti

na sādhu manye yata ātmano ’yam
asann api kleśada āsa dehaḥ
SYNONYMS
nūnam—indeed; pramattaḥ—mad; kurute—performs; vikarma—sinful activities forbidden in the scriptures; yat—when; indriya-prītaye—for sense gratification; āpṛṇoti—engages; na—not; sādhu—befitting; manye—I think; yataḥ—by which; ātmanaḥ—of the soul; ayam—this; asan—being temporary; api—although; kleśa-daḥ—giving misery; āsa—became possible; dehaḥ—the body.
TRANSLATION
When a person considers sense gratification the aim of life, he certainly becomes mad after materialistic living and engages in all kinds of sinful activity. He does not know that due to his past misdeeds he has already received a body which, although temporary, is the cause of his misery. Actually the living entity should not have taken on a material body, but he has been awarded the material body for sense gratification. Therefore I think it not befitting an intelligent man to involve himself again in the activities of sense gratification by which he perpetually gets material bodies one after another.
PURPORT
Begging, borrowing and stealing to live for sense gratification is condemned in this verse because such consciousness leads one to a dark, hellish condition. The four sinful activities are illicit sex, meat-eating, intoxication and gambling. These are the means by which one gets another material body that is full of miseries. In the Vedas it is said: asaṅgo hy ayaṁ puruṣaḥ. The living entity is not really connected with this material world, but due to his tendency to enjoy the material senses. he is put into the material condition. One should perfect his life by associating with devotees. He should not become further implicated in the material body
