seeing through the eyes of scriptures

main nahin makhana khayo
I never ate any butter
Oh my mother- I promise this- I never ate any butter
(not sung- maiya mori kasuma teri main nahin makhana khayo)
maiya mori main nahin makhana khayo

bhora bhayo gaiyana ke pache
when the sun rises, I go (leave) to tend the cows
madhubana mohi pathaiya
on your order- i go to madhubana!

cara prahara vamsi vata bhatakyo
all day long I wander playing my flute
sanjha pade ghara ayo
and when it's dark I come home!

O my mother! when could have I eaten the butter?

main balaka baiyana ko choto
I'm a small boy, my hands are so little
chika kahi vidha paya?
tell me how can I reach the pots?

gvala bala saba baira pade hain
all of my cowherd friends came and surrounded me
bara bas mukha lipatayo
they smeared the butter on my face!

o my mother I never ate any butter

ye le apani lakuti kambaliya
take back this herding stick and earings you gave me
bahuta h i naca nacayo
i quit! i've danced for you enough

suradasa yaba vihasi yasoda
sura dasa says Yashoda gently smiles
le ura kantha lagayo
and hugs him tightly to her chest

o my mother I never ate any butter
Oh my mother- I promise this- I never ate any butter
maiya mori main nahin makhana khayo
