Dear devotees
Please accept my humble obaisences
All glories to Srila Prabhupada
HH Mukunda Maharaja and Drutakarma wrote a very nice book,Divine Nature about environmental protection. But now New Vrindavana has signed contracts to allow gas fracking. What a paradigm?
http://news.iskcon.com/node/2519http://www.brijabasispirit.com/2011/01/21/gas-drilling-near-new-vri..."Even if the government does not acquire our land, if in our vicinity some such Industry (coal or oil industry) is started, the whole idea of New Vrindavan will fade away.
Vrindavan conception is a transcendental village, without any botheration of the modern industrial atmosphere. My idea of developing New Vrindavan is to create an atmosphere of spiritual life where people in bona fide order of social division, namely, brahmacaris, grhasthas, vanaprasthas, sannyasis, or specifically brahmacharis, sannyasis and vanaprasthas will live there independently on agricultural produce and milk from the cows. The life should be simplified without being hampered by laboring day and night for economic development, without any spiritual understanding. The New Vrindavan idea is that persons who live there will accept the bare necessities of life to maintain the body and soul together and the major part of time should be engaged in the development of Krsna consciousness.
The whole Vedic principle is to develop Krsna consciousness, without creating much botheration for the program of sense gratification. Industrial development (or mining operation) in the neighboring places will mar the whole idea.
Now you have to consider yourself, looking forward to the future of the land, and then decide what to do. I do not like to have New Vrindavan with industrial or mining areas. I have got experience of them in India, that the mining are simply next to dungeon. The workers in the mines are considered to be residing in hell. And we can never expect any good behavior from such workers. So we must think of the atmosphere around Vrindavan.
In India also, our present government are trying to develop industries in the vast tracts of land around Vrindavan and creating a hellish atmosphere. So I request you to be assured of the future of the land, and then do the needful. The summary is that the face of the lease agreement appears to be alright, but I am thinking of a spiritual development. I hope you have received my previous letter and I am expecting your reply as soon as possible."

" Sacrificing the land, water, the welfare of people & animals not to mention all of nature that surrounds that area...it isn't worth any amount. That is my humble opinion."
In nearby county of New Vrindavana, the residents have taken action:

West Virginia City Bans Gas Drilling And Fracking
MetroNews
Wellsburg, Brooke County
Natural gas drilling and fracking are no longer allowed within the limits or within a mile of the limits of a Brooke County city.
The ban has already taken effect in Wellsburg after a 4-3 vote from Wellsburg's City Council earlier this week.
Wellsburg Mayor Sue Simonetti cast the deciding vote Tuesday night since, two Council members were absent because of illnesses. "Once the water source is gone, it is done, so we have to protect the residents and our water supply," the mayor said of the decision.
Officials with Chesapeake Energy had objected to the proposed ban and are expected to challenge it.
Mayor Simonetti says the ordinance is a precautionary move.
"The gas companies, the drilling companies say that they're doing everything they can to be safe and I believe that they are. But accidents do happen and once my water resources are contaminated, they're gone," she said.
However, the mayor says there is room for some negotiation.
"They (ordinances) are amended from time to time, but we have to take the initial step. If we don't do something to protect our residents, then we're not going to have any kind of mediation whatsoever," Simonetti said.
"They're just going to do what they want to do."
An open forum on the new ordinance in Wellsburg will be held on May 24th.

Krsna states in Bhagavad Gita: 16 .7
pravrttim ca nivrttim ca
jana na vidur asurah
na shaucam napi cacaro
na satyam tesu vidyate
"Those who are demoniac do not know what is to be done and what is not to be done. Neither cleanliness nor proper behavior nor truth is found in them."
The word Shaucam is significant here because this Gas drilling is not clean.Srila Prabhupada noted that this exploitation of the inner resources of the earth like oil
drilling (and we should surely include gas drilling also), is the cause of earth quakes.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dEB_Wwe-uBM&feature=relatedAccording to Anuttama Prabhu and Malati Mataji this gas fracking will happen in New Vrindavana , but when is not clear yet.
