"Lord Krishna is the color of a  new rain cloud, therefore He is compared to a transcendental cloud full of  eternity, bliss and cognizance. He is the original and supreme person. He is the  origin of all activities and the one and only Lord of all. He is the worshipful  Lord of the best of demigods, the controller of Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva.  Krishna is without any beginning. Whatever auspiciousness is found within or  beyond this universe the devotee obtains in Krishna alone" (Rig Veda, Krishna Upanishad)

In this month of Purusottama Mas , Lord Jagannatha is worshipped, my Gurudeva used to many times worship Lord Jagannatha in Jagannatha Puri during this months ,this is certainly most proper. Actually we should daily remember and sing the Jagannatha astakam as sung by Lord Caitanya:

TRANSLATION 1) Sometimes in great  happiness Lord Jagannatha makes a loud concert with  His flute in the groves on the banks of the Yamuna. He  is like a bumblebee tasting the beautiful lotus like faces of the cowherd  damsels of Vraja, and great personalities such as Laksmi, Siva, Brahma, Indra,  and Ganesa worship His lotus feet. May that Jagannatha Svami be the object of  my vision.

2) In His left hand Lord Jagannatha holds a flute, on His head He wears peacock  feathers, and on His hips He wears fine yellow silken cloth. From the corners of  His eyes He bestows sidelong glances upon His loving devotees, and He always  reveals Himself through His pastimes in His divine abode of Vrndavana. May that JagannathaSvami be the object of my vision.

3) On the shore of the  great ocean, within a large palace atop the brilliant, golden Nilacala Hill, Lord Jagannatha  resides with His powerful brother Balabhadra and His  sister Subhadra, who sits between Them. May that Jagannatha Svami, who bestows the opportunity for devotional service  upon all godly souls, be the object of my vision.

4) Lord Jagannatha is an ocean of mercy and as beautiful as a row of  blackish rain clouds. He is the storehouse of bliss for Laksmi and Sarasvati, and His face  resembles a spotless full-blown lotus. The best of demigods and sages worship  Him, and the Upanisads sing His glories. May that Jagannatha Svami be the  object of my vision.

5) When Lord Jagannatha moves along the road on His Rathayatra car, at every step large assemblies of brahmanas loudly chant prayers and sing songs for His  pleasure. Hearing their hymns, Lord Jagannatha becomes  very favorably disposed toward them. He is the ocean of mercy and the true  friend of all the worlds. May that Jagannatha Svami, along with His consort Laksmi, who was born from the ocean of nectar, be the object  of my vision.

6) Lord Jagannatha, whose eyes resemble full-blown lotus petals, is  the ornament on Lord Brahma's head. He resides on Nilacala Hill with His lotus feet placed on the heads of Anantadeva. Overwhelmed by the  mellows of love, He joyfully embraces SrimatiRadharani's body, which is like a cool pond. May that Jagannatha Svami be the  object of my vision.

7) I do not pray for a  kingdom nor do I pray for gold, rubies, or wealth. I do not ask for a beautiful  wife as desired by all men. I simply pray that Jagannatha Svami, whose glories  Lord Siva always sings, may be the constant object of my  vision.

8) O Lord of the demigods,  please quickly remove this useless material existence I  am undergoing. O Lord of the Yadus, please destroy this vast, shoreless ocean  of sins. Alas, this is certain Lord Jagannatha bestows  His lotus feet upon those who feel themselves fallen and have no shelter in this  world but Him. May that Jagannatha Svami be the object of my vision.

9) The self-retrained,  virtuous soul who recites these eight verses glorifying Lord Jagannatha becomes cleansed of all sins and duly proceeds to  Lord Visnu's abode.

also some other nice prayers are there to Lord Jagannatha:

TRANSLATION

1) O Jagannatha, I ask  nothing from You - neither wealth, neither followers. I  aamm only asking for one forearm's length of land at Saradha Bali.

2) My eyes want nothing other than to see Your beautiful form. My ears want nothing other than to hear  the recitation of Your songs.

3) Neither by day or night does this tongue want to  sing mundane songs. O Pitavasa, O Lord Jagannatha, who wears yellow garments, chanting Your holy name is my only last hope.

4) My nose is not interested in the smells of this  world. It only wants to relish the fragrance of Yourprasadi-garlands, tulasi,  flowers, sandalwood paste and camphor.

5) O Rama Vanamali, O Flute-playing Krsna, who gives pleasure to His  devotees, my fingers want only to be engaged in the japa of 'Hare Krsna'. Salabega, of  lowborn caste, pleads to give up his body in the holy land of Jagannatha Puri.

REMARKS/EXTRA INFORMATION:

Verse 1 describes “Saradha  Bali.” It is the forearm's length of land is just enough space to sit down. Saradha Bali is where the Lord's chariot waits near Gundica between the two Rathayatras.

CREDITS:

This song was also translated by Gopala Jiu and printed in the  fourth issue of Sri Krishna Kathamrita magazine  entitled, "The Confidential Meaning of Ratha-yatra".

Regarding Jagannatha Puri Caitanya Caritamrta states:

TRANSLATION

Thus Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu's ecstatic love was awakened by hearing the songs of Vṛndāvana. In this way He inundated Puruṣottama, Jagannātha Purī, with love of Godhead.

Comment : This is the mood of the followers of Lord Gauranga

Lord Caitanya has stated: Śrī Caitanya Caritāmṛta Madhya 15.134

TRANSLATION

Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu said, "In this Age of Kali, Kṛṣṇa is manifest in two forms — wood and water. Thus, by enabling the conditioned souls to see the wood and bathe in the water, He helps them become liberated.

Śrī Caitanya Caritāmṛta Madhya 15.135

'dāru-brahma'-rūpesākṣāt śrī-puruṣottama

bhāgīrathī hana sākṣāt 'jala-brahma'-sama

TRANSLATION

"Lord Jagannātha is the Supreme Lord Himself in the form of wood, and the river Ganges is the Supreme Lord Himself in the form of water.

PURPORT

The Vedas enjoin, sarvaḿ khalv idaḿ brahma: everything is the energy of the Supreme Personality of Godhead, the Supreme Brahman or Parambrahma. Parasya brahmaṇaḥ śaktis tathedam akhilaḿ jagat: everything is a manifestation of the energy of the Supreme Brahman. Since the energy and energetic are identical, actually everything is Kṛṣṇa, Parambrahma. In the Bhagavad-gītā (9.4) Lord Kṛṣṇa confirms this:

mayā tatam idaḿ sarvaḿ jagad avyakta-mūrtinā

mat-sthāni sarva-bhūtāni na cāhaḿ teṣv avasthitaḥ

"By Me, in My unmanifested form, this entire universe is pervaded. All beings are in Me, but I am not in them."

Kṛṣṇa is spread throughout the whole universe in His impersonal form. Since everything is a manifestation of the Lord's energy, the Lord can manifest Himself through any energy. In this age, the Lord is manifest through wood as Lord Jagannātha, and He is manifest through water as the river Ganges. Therefore Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu ordered the two brothers — Sārvabhauma Bhaṭṭācārya and Vidyā-vācaspati — to worship Lord Jagannātha and the river Ganges.

sārvabhauma, kara 'dāru-brahma'-ārādhana

vācaspati, kara jala-brahmera sevana

SYNONYMS

sārvabhaumaO Sārvabhauma; kara — be engaged in; dāru-brahma — of wooden Brahman; ārādhana — worship; vācaspati — and you, Vācaspati; karado; jala-brahmera — of Parambrahma manifested in water; sevana — worship.

TRANSLATION

"Sārvabhauma Bhaṭṭācārya, you should engage in the worship of Lord Jagannātha Puruṣottama, and Vācaspati should worship mother Ganges."

comment:

When Lord Caitanya  was talking about Jagannatha Purusottama He was not refering to the expansion of the Caturvuyha:

Śrī Caitanya Caritāmṛta Madhya 20.203

ei cāri-janera vilāsa-mūrti āra aṣṭa lana

tāń sabāra nāma kahi, śuna sanātana

SYNONYMS

TRANSLATION

"From Vāsudeva, Sańkarṣaṇa, Pradyumna and Aniruddha, there are eight additional pastime expansions. O Sanātana, please hear Me as I mention Their names.

Madhya 20.204

puruṣottama, acyuta, nṛsiḿha, janārdana

hari, kṛṣṇa, adhokṣaja, upendra, — aṣṭa-jana

SYNONYMS

puruṣottamaPuruṣottama; acyutaAcyuta; nṛsiḿhaNṛsiḿha; janārdanaJanārdana; hariHari; kṛṣṇaKṛṣṇa; adhokṣajaAdhokṣaja; upendraUpendra; aṣṭa-jana — eight persons.

TRANSLATION

"The eight pastime expansions are Puruṣottama, Acyuta, Nṛsiḿha, Janārdana, Hari, Kṛṣṇa, Adhokṣaja and Upendra.

Krsna is often refered to as Purusottama ,and so is even Lord Ramachandra and Lord Narasimha, but as Gaudiya vaisnavas our concern is Jagannatha Purusottama He is the subject of this Purusottama Adhika Masa.

As Lord Caitanya is non different from Lord Jagannatha we should also chant the names of Lord Caitanya during Purusottama Adhika Mas and we can remember the beautiful prayer of Srila Raghunath das Goswami:

(1) Whoever sees His gait and beautiful face enthusiastically spits on the grace of the most graceful elephant in rut and on the beauty of the moon. His complexion makes Him resemble a splendid golden mountain, and His words come from His lips like waves of nectar. That golden-limbed Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu rises within my heart and maddens me.
(2) As He danced before the Ratha-yatra chariot, Caitanya Mahaprabhu pleased Lord Jagannatha by decorating Himself with the nine jewels of the sattvika-bhava ecstasies, namely paleness, becoming stunned, stuttering, trembling, shedding tears, horripilation, laughing, perspiring, and dancing. That golden-limbed Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu rises within my heart and maddens me.
(3) Trembling as He danced before Lord Jagannatha’s chariot, Lord Caitanya staggered about in ecstasy, sprinkling everyone with water from the reddish syringes of His eyes and joyfully biting His charming lips with His teeth. That golden-limbed Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu rises within my heart and maddens me.
(4) Sometimes Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu would go to the house of Kasi Misra. There He would be greatly aggrieved, feeling separation from Krsna. The joints of His transcendental body would slacken, and His arms and legs would become elongated. Rolling on the ground, the Lord would cry out in distress in a faltering voice and weep very sorrowfully. The appearance of Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu, awakening in my heart, maddens me.*
(5) How wonderful it is! Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu left His residence without opening the three strongly bolted doors. Then He crossed over three high walls, and later, because of strong feelings of separation from Krsna, He fell down amidst the cows of the Tailanga district and retracted all the limbs of His body like a tortoise. Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu, who appeared in that way, rises in my heart and maddens me. *
(6) Because of separation from His many friends in Vrndavana, who were like His own life, Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu spoke like a madman. His intelligence was transformed. Day and night He rubbed His moonlike face against the walls, and blood flowed from the injuries. May that Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu rise in my heart and make me mad with love.*
(7) “My dear friend the doorkeeper, where is Krsna, the Lord of My heart? Kindly show Him to Me quickly.” With these words Lord Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu addressed the doorkeeper like a madman. The doorkeeper grasped His hand and replied very hastily, “Come, see Your beloved!” May that Lord Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu rise within my heart and thus make me mad also.*
(8) Near Jagannatha Puri was a great sand dune known as Cataka-parvata. Seeing that hill, Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu said, “Oh, I shall go to the land of Vraja to see Govardhana Hill.” Then He began running madly to it, and all the Vaisnavas ran after Him. This scene awakens in my heart and maddens me.*
(9) During Dola-yatra, the swing festival of Sri Sri Radha and Krsna, Lord Caitanya stayed under a charming pavilion and sweetly and jubilantly sang the holy names in the company of Svarupa Damodara and His other intimate devotees. That golden-limbed Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu rises within my heart and maddens me.
(10) Lord Caitanya was as kind to Govinda dasa as Lord Narayana is to Garuda. He was as devoted to Isvara Puri as Lord Krsna was to His guru, Sandipani Muni, the best of acaryas. And He was as affectionate toward Svarupa Damodara Gosvami as Lord Giridhari was toward Subala. That golden-limbed Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu rises within my heart and maddens me.
(11) Although I am a fallen soul, the lowest of men, Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu delivered me from the blazing forest fire of great material opulence by His mercy. He handed me over in great pleasure to Svarupa Damodara, His personal associate. The Lord also gave me the garland of gunja that He wore on His chest and a stone from Govardhana Hill, although they were very dear to Him. That same Lord Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu awakens within my heart and makes me mad after Him.*
(12) This poem is like a celestial desire tree whose charming branches are its verses. Those branches appear very splendid because of the blossoming flowers of variegated expressions of ecstatic love for Lord Gauranga that grow there. If a person regularly waters this tree with lots of the water of careful and pure reading mixed with the powerful plant food of great faith, he will certainly be able to taste that tree’s heavy, nectarean fruit—the personal audience of Lord Gauranga.
comment:
Also we can read the many pastimes of Lord Caitanya in Jagannatha Puri and daily worship Lord Jagannatha by Abhiseka and chant the holy names of Krsna.
In the Padma Purana , Krsna has told Yuddhisthira Maharaja:
: 1. Worshipping Me,  , by chanting My holy name 2. Study of Srimad Bhagavatam and Bhagavad-gita, particularly Chapter Fifteen, Purushottama Yoga 3. Giving in charity 4. Offering ghee  lamp daily
So during this Purusottama Masa 2012 ,I will give the the purports and significance of this chapter 15 of Bhagavad Gita  with the Commentaries  the acaryas, and we will look at Srila Prabhupadas purports and lectures to this chapter.
Here is something from Purebhakti.com about how Srila Narayana Maharaja observing Purusottama adhika masa.
I know Srila Prabhupada has mentioned this month in the CC but I will look it up, this is a very common practise among Gaudiya Vaisnavas but still a bit new to many western devotees and new commers to KC.
