Srila Prabhupada ,Jesus Christ in Puri and the Aquarian Gospel

letters, 1969

His Divine Grace A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupāda
,July 31
My Dear Hayagriva,
Please accept my blessings. I am in due receipt of your letter dated July 22, 1969, and I have noted the contents carefully. The money matters dealings are somewhat an embarrassment to me. I do not know what they have paid and what you have received. The best thing is as you suggested that the girls who are there may come back to Los Angeles. I have asked Tamala also to write them. If Tamala is not sending their money, he should look after their comfort, and the best thing would be that you ask them to come back to Los Angeles, without any hardships and burdens on you. You take care of Girish and Birbhadra nicely, and I shall ask Silavati to send the money directly. Yes, Kirtanananda Maharaja is not very much in favor of Nara Narayana, so for the time being I am not asking him to return to New Vrindaban. He has done very nicely here in the Rathayatra Festival, and it was very successful in San Francisco. I shall send you later on the reprint pictures published in the local newspapers, and you will be glad to learn that about 10,000 people participated in this function. The procession was taken along about an 8 mile distance, and the people followed all through, simply chanting the Hare Krishna Mantra. This was a unique scene in this part of the world. Some of the Christian-minded people became almost envious, and I have received some anonymous letters. Maybe as our movement increases in volume the orthodox section of Christianity may be envious of our successful march. I think you should collect some information from the Bible that Sankirtana, chanting of the Holy Names of God, is recommended there also. There is a book called Aquarian Gospel in which it is stated that Lord Jesus Christ lived in the temple of Jagannatha. Without being His devotee, how could he live there and how the authorities could allow a nondevotee to live there? From that book it appears that Lord Jesus Christ lived in intimate relations with the priest order. So as far as possible, you should prepare yourself for future writings that our movement is not against the philosophy of Jesus Christ, but it is in complete collaboration with his line of religiosity. Actually, we don't decry any religious way of the world, but we are simply advocating that people should learn to love God by following their religious principles. If one is not fortunate to be learning how to love God, then his religious principles are simply fanaticism, without any value. We are presenting the same thing practically by which one can learn very quickly how to love God, and then his life becomes sublime. So our process is a system, following which any man from any religious sect may come and join and learn how to love God. Now you should think

dear devotees
Please accept my humble obaisences
All glories to Srila Prabhupada
On book distribution we have often met Christians that object to KC , that are narrow minded. Many are not like that but
Srila Prabhupada wanted us to preach to the Christians also, though most sankirtana devotees avoid them knowing them to be a fully waste of time.So somehow the many Christians rarely derive benefit from the sankirtana movement.Lord Caitanya devised plans so the most fallen could get His mercy He was freely distributing to everyone. So I looked a little into this Aquarian Gospel.
some neophytes claim Jesus Christ was 1000 times less than Haridas Thakura and Vasudeva Datta, this is surely vaisnava aparadha,as Jesus was a vaisnava, his teachings has been watered down, but so much goodness is there in Christianity also,so much awareness of God, He said:" I can teach you much more but you are not ready"
He was not just boasting and Srila Prabhupada never ever put Jesus Christ down

Jesus Christ was a worldwide preacher and has stated in John I have followers all over the world this is certainly more so than ever before, this is the power of his pure teachings and preaching, in ISKCON we should give all respects and help Christians follow Christ better like Srila Prabhupada did, for example by encouraging Christians to become vegetarians and many are due to Srila Prabhupadas preaching this.
Actually even before that also, my grandmother was a vegetarian for almost 20 years from 1940 to 60 or so,due to her faith in Jesus through the Adventists, that mostly preach to become a vegetarian, in a nearby Adventist hospital until few years ago, to get fish meat and eggs was not possible.for any patients.
there is an online copy of the Aquarian gospel athttp://en.wikisource.org/wiki/The_Aquarian_Gospel_of_Jesus_the_Christ#Section_VII:_Zain:_Life_and_Works_of_Jesus_in_Tibet_and_Western_India

there is an important lecture by Srila Prabhupada about saktyavesa avatars at http://www.prabhupadavani.org/main/Caitanya_Caritamrta/CC066.html
Jesus Christ is listed there also.
Srila Prabhupada of course was also a saktyavesa of Krishna as he is nicely glorified by BS Sundara Maharaja :
guruvajnam sirasi-dharyam saktyavesa svarupinehare-krsneti mantrena pascatya-pracya-tarine

Taking the order of his guru upon his head, he became empowered by Nityananda Prabhu to act as a saktyavesa avatara. He distributed the Hare Krsna mantra all over the eastern and western world, delivering and uplifting all fallen souls.

Chapter 21 Chapter 22→

1. A ROYAL prince of India, Ravanna of Orissa in the south, was at the Jewish feast.
2. Ravanna was a man of wealth; and he was just, and with a band of Brahmic priests sought wisdom in the West.
3. When Jesus stood among the Jewish priests and read and spoke, Ravanna heard and was amazed.
4. And when he asked who Jesus was, from whence he came and what he was, chief Hillel said,5. We call this child the Day Star from on high, for he has come to bring to men a light, the light of life; to lighten up the way of men and to redeem his people, Israel.
6. And Hillel told Ravanna all about the child; about the prophecies concerning him; about the wonders of the night when he was born; about the visit of the magian priests;
7. About the way in which he was protected from the wrath of evil men; about his flight to Egypt-land, and how he then was serving with his father as a carpenter in Nazareth.
8. Ravanna was entranced, and asked to know the way to Nazareth, that he might go and honor such a one as son of God.
9. And with his gorgeous train he journeyed on the way and came to Nazareth of Galilee.
10. He found the object of his search engaged in building dwellings for the sons of men.
11. And when he first saw Jesus he was climbing up a twelve step ladder, and he carried in his hands a compass, square and axe.
12. Ravanna said, All hail, most favored son of heaven!
13. And at the inn Ravanna made a feast for all the people of the town; and Jesus and his parents were honored guests.
14. For certain days Ravanna was a guest in Joseph's home on Marmion Way; he sought to learn the secret of the wisdom of the son; but it was all to great for him.
15. And then he asked that he might be the patron of the child; might take him to the East where he could learn the wisdom of the Brahmanas.
16. And Jesus longed to go that he might learn; and after many days his parents gave consent.
17. Then, with proud heart, Ravanna with his train, began the journey towards the rising sun; and after many days they crossed the Sind, and reached the province of Orissa, and the palace of the prince.
18. The Brahmic priests were glad to welcome home the prince; with favor they received the Jewish boy.
19. And Jesus was accepted as a pupil in the temple Jagannath; and here learned the Vedas and the Manic laws.
20. The Brahmic masters wondered at the clear conceptions of the child, and often were amazed when he explained to them the meaning of the laws.

I pray this helps in our preaching to the Christians, so they may also understand Jesus Christ in proper perspective to Lord Caitanyas mercy .

Verse 90: "I humbly take a piece of straw between my teeth and praise you while falling down and beseechingly clasping your feet. Oh Sir, you are such a great and brilliant man, there is no one greater than you, you are so intelligent, rich and beautiful. I earnestly adore and applaud your good qualities hundreds of times. You may ask me, 'Why are you so humble? Why are you flattering me? What is your intention, tell me?' I reply: 'My dear Sir, you are a great sadhu and gentleman. You have learned and been educated in so many nice things, I know, but reject them please, whatever unwanted and hogwash things are there in your brain, please kick them out, throw them far away and direct all your love and affection to the the most merciful Lord Gaurangachandra and His Holy Name and in this way become an ardent devotee of His lotus feet. This will be the supreme perfection of your life."
