Lord Siva gave Markandeya Rsi a boon of life as long as Lord Brahmas

Markandeya Rsi as a child was worshipping Lord Siva, Yamaraja the Lord of death came to personally take the life if Markandeya Rsi , but clung on to the Siva Linga taking refuge of Lord Siva , when Yamaraja threw the noose of death around Markandeya Rsi to drag his soul and subtle body out of his body ,Lord Siva personally came and protected Markandeya Rsi .In Srimad Bhagavatam 12 canto it is stated : SB 12.8.2-5 — Authorities say that Mārkaṇḍeya Ṛṣi, the son of Mṛkaṇḍu, was an exceptionally long-lived sage who was the only survivor at the end of Brahmā’s day, when the entire universe was merged in the flood of annihilation. But this same Mārkaṇḍeya Ṛṣi, the foremost descendant of Bhṛgu, took birth in my own family during the current day of Brahmā, and we have not yet seen any total annihilation in this day of Brahmā. Also, it is well known that Mārkaṇḍeya, while wandering helplessly in the great ocean of annihilation, saw in those fearful waters a wonderful personality — an infant boy lying alone within the fold of a banyan leaf. O Sūta, I am most bewildered and curious about this great sage, Mārkaṇḍeya Ṛṣi. O great yogī, you are universally accepted as the authority on all the Purāṇas. Therefore kindly dispel my confusion.

So the part not told is that Lord Siva personally protected Markandeya Rsi from death ,so he can not be killed and will first go back to Godhead at the end of Lord Brahmas life.By Lord Sivas grace he is living that long .Actually Yamaraja was fighting with Lord Siva so if he win ,he would then take Markandeyas life , but Lord Siva won the battle and gave Markandya Rsi the gift to live for as long as the duration of Brahmas life and go back to the Spiritual world.If you have read Navadvipa Dhama Mahatmya properly you will also know Markandeya Rsi met Lord Caitanya in Navadvipa ,during the partial destruction of the universe at the end of Brahmas day.Navadvipa and Vrindavana flowes on top these waters as transcendental lotuses, and Markandeya Rsi after seeing Bala Gopal also got the mercy to enter Navadvipa so he is a very unusual and special sage and we should offer him our humble obaisences throwing ourselves in the dust of his holy lotusfeet .

Markandeya Rsi is a very important Rsi that attained the mercy of Sri Sri Nara Narayana Rsis , it is in plural as they are two .Not mentioned in Srimad Bhagavatam is that the largest Purana is Markandeya Purana spoken by Markandeya Rsi
