One Hundred and Eight Names of Lord Krishna

Text 1 shri-krishnah kamala-natho vasudevah sanatanah vasudevatmajah punyo lila-manusha-vigrahah
shri-krishnah---Lord Krishna, the all-attractive Supreme Personality of Godhead; kamala---of Laksmi-devi; nathah---the Lord; vasudevah---Lord Vasudeva; sanatanah---eternal; vasudeva---of Vasudeva---atmaja---the transcendental son; punyah---pure; lila-manusa-vigrahah---whose form resemble that of a human being.
Lord Krishna, the all attractive Supreme Personality of Godhead, known as Lord Vasudeva, is the Lord of Laksmi-devi, eternal, the transcendental son of Vasudeva, pure, and His form resembles that of a human being.
Text 2 shrivatsa-kaustubha-dharo yashoda-vatsalo harih caturbhujatta-cakrasi- gada-shankhambujayudhah
shrivatsa---shrivatsa; kaustubha---kaustubha jewel; dharah---wearing; yasoda---for Yasoda; vatsalah---full of filial love; harih---Lord Hari, who removes the material attachment which hinder His devotees; catuh---four; bhuja---arms; atta---placed; cakra---sudarsana cakra; asi---sword; gada---club; sankha---conch; ambuja---lotus flwoer; ayudhah---wepons.
Lord Krishna removes the material attachments which hinder His devotees, and He is very affectionate to His mother Yashoda-devi. In His four armed-form, He holds the sudarshana-cakra, a sword, mace, conch-shell, lotus flower, and various wepons.
Text 3 devaki-nandanah shrisho nana-gopa-priyatmajah yamuna-vega-samhari balabhadra-priyanujah
devaki---of Devaki; nandanah---dear son; shri---of the goddess of fortune; isah---the Lord; nanda---of Nanda; gopa---the cowherd man; priya---dear; atmajah---son; yamuna---of the Yamuna river; vega---the flowing; samhari---stopping; balabhadra---of Lord Baladeva---priya---dear; anujah---younger brother.
Lord Krishna is the transcendental son of Devaki-devi and the lord of goddess of fortune. He is dear son of Nanda Maharaja and the younger brother of Lord Baladeva. It is He who stopped th fierce flowing of Yamuna river.
Text 4 putana-jivita-harah shakatasura-bhanjanah nanda-vraja-jananandi sac-cid-ananda-vigrahah
putana---of Putana; jivita---life; harah---removing; sakata-asura---of Sakatasura; bhanjanah---the breaker; nanda---Nanda Maharaja; vraja---of Vrajabhumi; jana---the residents; anandi---delighting; sat---eternal; cit---full of knowledge; ananda---and bliss; vigrahah---form.
Lord Krishna killed Putana and broke the demon Shakatasura apart. He delighted Nanda Maharaja and the residents of Vrajabhumi, and His form is eternal, full of knowledge and bliss.
Text 5 navanita-nava-hari mucukunda-prashadakah shodasha-stri-sahasresas tri-bhangi-madhurakritih
navanita---of butter; nava---young; hari---thief; mucukunda---to Mucukunda---prasadakah= merciful; sodasa-stri-sahasra---of sixteen-thousand queens; isah---the Lord; tri-bhangi---three-fold bending; madhura---charming; akrtih---form.
Lord Krishna is the youthful butter-thief, and the merciful benedictor of King Mucukunda. He is the lord of 16,000 queens, and His three-fold bending form is charming.
Text 6 shuka-vag-amritabdhindur govindo govindam patih vatsa-palana-sancari dhenukasura-bhanjanah
suka---of Sukadeva Gosvami; vak---of the words; amrta---of the nectar; abdhi---from the ocean; induh---the moon; govindah---the pleasure of the cows, land and senses; govindam---of the cowherd residents of Vrajabhumi; patih---the master; vatsa---the calves; palana---protecting; sancari---moving; dhenukasura---Dhenukasura; bhanjanah---breaking.
Lord Krishna is the moon born of the nectarean ocean of Shukadeva Gosvami's words, and He is the pleasure of the cows, land, and senses. He is the master of the cowherd residents of Vrajabhumi, and He protects the calves. He killed the Dhenuka demon.
Text 7 trini-krita-trinavarto yamalarjuna-bhanjanah uttala-tala-bhetta ca tamala-shyamalakritih
trni-krta---made as insignificant as a piece of straw; trnavarta---the Trnavarta demon; yamala-arjuna---the Yamala arjuna trees; bhanjanah---breaking; uttala---tall; tala---palm trees; bhetta---breaking; ca---and; tamala---tamala tree; syamala---dark complexioned; akrtih---form.
Lord Krishna killed the Trinavarta demon, making him appear as insignificant as a piece of straw, and He also broke the Yamala-arjuna treea. He broke the tall palm-trees (in Talavana), and Histranscendental form is charmingly dark-complexioned like a dark tamala-tree.
Text 8 gopa-gopishvaro yogi surya-koti-sama-prabhah ila-patih param-jyotir yadavendro yadudvahah
gopa---of the cowherd men; gopi---and gopis; isvarah---the master; yogi---the master of all mystic power; surya---of suns; kot---millions; sama---equal; prabhah---splendor; ila---of the earth; patih---the master; param-jyotih---indirectly manifested as the brahman effulgence; yadava---of the Yadu dynasty; indra---the king; yadudvahah---the best descendent of king Yadu.
Lord Krishna is the master of the gopis and cowherd boys, and the master of all mystic power. He is the lord of the entire earth, and He is also the Brahman effulgence, more splendid than millions of suns. He is the king of the Yadu dynasty and He is the most illustrious descendent of Maharaja Yadu.
Text 9 vana-mali pita-vasah parijatapaharakah govardhanacaloddharta gopalah sarva-palakah
vana---of forestr flowers; mali---with a garland; pita---yellow; vasah---dhoti---parijata---the parijata flower; apaharakah---stealing; govardhana-acala---Govardhana Hill; uddharta---lifting; go---of the cows; palah---the protector; sarva---of everyone; palakah---the protector.
Lord Krishna wears a garland of forest flowers, and He wears a yellow dhoti. It is He who lifted Govardhana Hill and Who stole the celestial Parijata tree. He is the protector of the cows, and indeed, He is the protector of everyone.
Text 10 ajo niranjanah kama- janakah kanja-locanah madhuha mathura-natho dvaraka-nayako bali
ajah---unborn; nirananah---untouched by material nature; kama---of cupid; janakah---the father; kanja---like swiftly miving kanja birds; locana---restless eyes; madhu---of the Madhu demon; ha---the killer; mathura---of Mathura city; nathah---the lord; dvaraka---of Dvaraka city; nayakah---the hero; bali---strong.
Unborn Lord Krishna is beyond the influence of material nature. He is the father if cupid, and His restless eye move swiftly as kanja birds. He is the killer of the madhu demon, the lord of Mathura, and the strong hero of Dvaraka.
Text 11 vrindavananta-sancari tulasi-dama-bhushanah syamantaka-maner harta nara-narayanatmakah
vrndavana---of Vrndavana forest; anta---on the outskirts; sancari---wandering; tulasi---of tulasi leaves; dama---with a garland; bhusanah---decorated; syamantaka-maneh---of the Syamantaka jewel; harta---He who removes; nara-narayana---of Nara-Narayana Rsis; atmakah---the very heart.
Lord Krishna wanders on the outskirts of the Vrindavana forest, and He is decorated with a garland of tulasi. He took away the Syamantaka jewel and He is the life and soul of the Nara-Narayana /Rshis.
Text 12 kubja-rijv-anga-karano mayi parama-purushah mushtikasura-canura- malla-yuddha-visharadah
kubja---if the hunchbacked girl Kubja; rju---straight; anga---body; karanah---causing; mayi---the master of the illusory potency maya; parama---supreme; purusah---person; mustika---Mustika; asura---the demon; canura---Canura; malla---wrestling; yuddha---combat; visaradah---expert.
Lord Krishna strightened the hunchbacked girl Kubja, and He is the Supreme Person, the controller of maya. He expertly wrestled with the Mushtika and Canura demons.
Text 13 samsara-vairi kamsarir murarir narakantakah anadir brahmacari ca krishnavyasana-karshakah
samsara---of continued material existance; vairi---the enemy; kamsa---of Kamsa; arih---the enemy; mura---of Mura; arih---the enemy; naraka---of Narakasura; antakah---the killer; anadih---without a beginning; brahmacari---spiritual; ca---and; krishna---of Draupadi; vyasana---distresses; karsakah---removing.
Lord Krishna is opposed to continual material existance, and He is the enemy of the Kamsa and Mura demons, and the killer of Narakasura. He is beginningless and spiritual, and He rescued Draupadi from many calamities.
Text 14 shishupala-shirash-chetta duryodhana-kulantakrit vidurakrura-varado vishvarupa-pradarshakah
sisupala---of Sisupala; sirah---the head; chetta---cutting; duryodhana---of Duryodhana; kula---the family; antakrt---killing; vidura---to Vidura; akrura---and Akrura; varadah-= granting benedictions; visvarupa---the universal form; pradarsakah---revealing.
Lord Krishna beheaded Shishupala and killed Duryodhana's entire family. He granted benedictions to Vidura and Akrura, and He revealed the universal form.
Text 15 satya-vak satya-sankalpah satyabhamarato jayi subhadra-ppurvajo vishnur bhishma-mukti-pradayakah
satya-vak---truthful; satya-sankalpah---with pure desires; satyabhama---by Satyabhama; aratah---delighted; jayi---victorious; subhadra---of Subhadra; purvajah---elder brother; visnuh---Lord Vishnu; bhisma---to Bhisma; mukti---liberation; pradayakah---granting.
Lord Krishna is always truthful and His desires are always pure. He is always victorious, and He is delighted by Satyabhama-devi. He is the elder brother of Subhadra, and He is also Lord Vishnu. He granted liberation to Bhishmadeva.
Text 16 jagad-gurur jagan-natho venu-vadya-visharadah vrishabhasura-vidhvamsi banasura-=karantakrit
jagat---of the universe; guruh---the spiritual master; jagat---of the universe; nathah---the master; venu---the flute; dvadya---playing; visaradah---expert; vrsabhasira---Aristasura; vidhvamsi---killing; banasira---of Banasura; kara---the hands; antakrt---cutting off.
Lord Krishna is the Lord and spiritual master of the entire universe, and He is very expert at playing the flute. He killed Arishtasura and cut off the many hands of Banasura.
Text 17 yudhishthira-pratishthata barhi-barhavatamsakah partha-sarathir avyakto gitamrita-mahodadhih
yudhisthira---King Yudisthira; pratisthata---establishing on the throne; barhi---peacock; barha---feather; avatamsakah---with a crown; partha---of Arjuna; sarathih---the chariot driver; avyaktah---unmanifested; gita---the Bhagavad-gita; amrta---the nectar; maha---great; udadhih---ocean.
Lord Krishna is the chariot driver of Arjuna, and He established King Yudishthira as the king of the entire world. He wears a crown of peacock feathers, the impersonal unmanifest Brahman has emenated from Him, and He is the ocean from which the nectar of Bhagavad-gita was churned.
Text 18 kaliya-phani-manikya- ranjita-shri-padambujah damodaro yajna-bhokta danavendra-vinashanah
kaliya---Kaliya; phani---of the serpent; manikya---by the jewels; ranjita---reddened; shri---beautiful; pada---feet; ambuja---lotus; dama---with a rope; udarah---on the waist; yajna---the sacrifices; bhokta---eating; danava---of the demons; indra---of the kings; vinasanah---destroying.
Lord Krishna's beautiful feet were reddened by the rubies on the hoods of the Kaliya serpent. He was tied about the waist by Mother Yashoda, and He ate the foodstuffs offered by the wives of the Brahmanas. He killed the kings of the demons.
Text 19 narayanah para-brahma pannagashana-vahanah jala-krida-samasakta- gopi-=vastrapaharakah
narayanah---Lord Narayana; para-brahma---the supreme Brahman; pannagasana---Garuda; vahanah---as a carrier; jala---in the water; krida---playing; samasakta---attached; gopi---of the gopis; vastra---the saris; apaharakah---stealing.
Lord Krishna is the Supreme Brahman, and He is also Lord Narayana. His carrier is Garuda, and Lord Krishna stole the saris of the gopis who were intent on playing in the water.
Text 20 punya-shlokas tirtha-karo veda-vedyo daya-nidhih sarva-tirthatmakah sarva- graha-rupi parat parah
punya-slokah---praised in eloquent verses; tirtha---places of pilgrimage; karah---creating; veda---by the Vedas; vedyah---to be understood; daya---of mercy; nidhih---an ocean; sarva---all; tirtha---of holy places; atmakah---the soul; sarva---all; graha---planets; rupi---the form; parat---than the greatest; parah---greater.
Lord Krishna is praised by eloquent verses and it is He who creates the places of pilgrimage. He is knowable by the Vedas, and He is an ocean of mercy. He is greater than the greatest, the soul of all holy places, and He is manifested as the different planets.
Text 21 ity evam krishnadevasya namnam astottaram shatam krishnena krishnba-bhaktena shrutva gitamritam pura
iti---thus; evam---in this way; krishnadevasya---of Lord Krishnadeva; namnam---of the Holy Names; astottaram satam---one hundred and eight; krsnena---by Lord Krishna; krishna---of Lord Krishna; bhaktena---by the devotee; srutva---having been heard; gita---of songs; amrtam---the nectar; pura---formerly.
These 108 Holy Names of Lord Krishnadeva are the nectar of all songs, and they were formerly heared by the Lord Himself and by His devotee.
Text 22 stotram krishna-priyakaram kritam tasman maya pura krishna-namamritam nama paramananda-dayakam
stotram---prayer; krishna---to Lord Krishna; priya-karam---endearing; krtam---written; tasmat---therefore; maya---by me; pura---formerly; krishna---of Lord Krishna; nama---of the Holy Names; amrtam---nectar; nama---indeed; parama---supreme; ananda---blidd; dayakam---granting.
Because Lord Krishna is pleased when He is nicely glorified in prayers, I have composed these verses. This nectar of Lord Krishna's Holy Names will certainly give great spiritual bliss to those who hear them.
Text 23 anupa-drava-duhkha-ghnam paramayushya-vardhanam danam shrutam tapas-tirtham yat-kritam tv iha janmani
anupa-drava-duhkha---various distresses; ghnam---removing; param---supreme; ayusya---life-span; vardhanam---increasing; danam---opulence; srutam---heard; tapah---of austerities; titham---holy place; yat---by whom; krtam---done; tu---certainly; iha---here; janmani---in this birth.
Whoever in this birth chants these Holy Names of Lord Krishna, will become free from all suffering, live for a long time, become wealthy, learned, austere, and travel to places of pilgrimage, becoming saintly.
