discussions with Basu Ghosh Prabhu about Srila Prabhupadas DIRECTION OF MANAGEMENT

PAMHO
AGTSP
Well the system of absolute authority only works if their is no corruption, and as most leaders will eventually get corrupt as they are not free from personal motivation. We have seen this in many past leaders and even present absolute power corrupts. So much so temple presidents and GBC's do with temple laxmi as they please, they only pretend to care about other devotees,. but are mostly selfish. Ravindra Svarupa keeps a tight grip over ISKCON Philadelphia for years and nothing is growing much there. The same has happened in many other places, because leaders just wants their will, not that of Srila PRabhupada.I helped start ISKCON Denmark ,but they have such a totalitarian system now,I am so disgusted I will never ever visit the temple or restaurant again there is has become fascist
and does not respect the most senior devotee from there, like myself.Or any senior devotees.
Direction of Management never took place because to many persons where pretending to fully support Srila Prabhupada they hoped one day it would be their turn
to be Gurus and so on.Gaura Govinda Swami said in ISKCON Potomac sometimes the TP thinks he has become Krsna, and we have seen it to many times. When I came back to Denmark for a short while in 1995, all devotees had signed a paper they wanted to get rid of the then TP, but Harikesa wanted to keep him, because they where plundering the yatra for money both he and his gangster disciple Ciranjiva another disicple Locana and Brahma Muhurta.I wrote Harikesa you replace this TP or I will take this to the GBC, quickly the next day ,Harikesa removed him.He is a perfect example of abuse of power.Though the Direction of Management was not implemented Srila Prabhupada clearly expressed it would suit devotees the best, and a GBC could not stay in office at the same place over long time without being voted in.Now many unpopular GBC men are in charge, try to have elections and see how fast we will get better leaders. However the spiritual standards set by Srila Prabhupada can not be changed. And as it is already happening now, maybe some of the" iron fist" is needed....I favor democracy in ISKCON ,that is done by mature devotees, maybe not everyone should vote, but those of brahminical standards and are not corrupt. In Berkely I have seen Jagananth and Amogha Lila fight for years to be in charge .Harivilasa is like a dictator there, and can not be trusted, this is why he no longer has influence in that temple. It is almost closed anyway. All voices should be heard this is even in Vedic times, now more than ever ISKCON has turned into a fascist police state where expression is banned.Srila Prabhupada is no longer the center in ISKCON as the founder because only the Guru puja is done without trying to go by his standards fully.I used to be abel to complaint to the GBC and they would take some good advise, when I was right, this inability to take any other devotees outside the GBC and leadership serious is facist and nazi like.At least the beatings of other devotees has stopped. We need liberty in ISKCON not that no one leader (or more )shall misspend money in ISKCON,without the consent of other responsible devotees. The present management system in USA is not tolerable. it is corrupt.Even I had to fight the demigod worship that practical all GBC's allowed at one point to make money in 1995-1996.GBC rules even are there but Anuttama is so asuric to this day Satya Narayana pujas and Ramacarita manasa readings goes on at ISKCON Potomac..Despite all GBC rules.
If the GBC or TP becomes an asura he should be replaced at least. This worship of Prabhupada disciples being the real "arayans"
and no one else is very important is also a demoniac philosophy. Many devotee like myself has spend more time preaching and distributing book, and making devotees than most of Prabhupadas direct disciples.I have never stolen from the temple as many have, never lived like a parasite of a temple.Instead I would go and collect and sell books for years.ISKCON minus corruption, deviations and persons pocketing laxmi in the name of ISKCON should all be stopped.
Wether is be the present system or Direction of Management. For example Srila Prabhupada has expressed his opinion there:
8. Removal of a Temple president by the GBC requires support by the local Temple members.
I have given the above example where the TP was corrupt and stealing money so all other devotees disliked his management. Why are most temples empty these days in many countries in the west. ! Srila Prabhupadas" Direction of management:
should be taken serious :http://prabhupadabooks.com/?g=176578,these are the direction of Srila Prabhupada :

As we have increased our volume of activities, now I think a Governing Body Commission (hereinafter referred to as the GBC) should be established. I am getting old, 75 years old, therefore at any time I may be out of the scene, therefore I think it is necessary to give instruction to my disciples how they shall manage the whole institution. They are already managing individual centers represented by one president, one secretary and one treasurer, and in my opinion they are doing nice. But we want still more improvement in the standard of Temple management, propaganda for Krishna Consciousness, distribution of books and literatures, opening of new centers and educating devotees to the right standard. Therefore, I have decided to adopt the following principles and I hope my beloved disciples will kindly accept them.

There was a meeting in San Francisco during the Ratha Yatra festival 1970 and many presidents of the centers were present. In that meeting it was resolved that an ad hoc committee be set up to form the constitution which is taken into consideration. My duty was to first appoint twelve (12) persons to my free choice amongst my disciples and I do it now and their names are as follows:

1. Śrīmān Rupanuga Das Adhikary
2. Śrīmān Bhagavandas Adhikary
3. Śrīmān Syamsundar Das Adhikary
4. Śrīmān Satsvarupa Das Adhikary
5. Śrīmān Karandhar Das Adhikary
6. Śrīmān Hansadutta Das Adhikary
7. Śrīmān Tamala Kṛṣṇa Das Adhikary
8. Śrīmān Sudama Das Adhikary
9. Śrīmān Bali Mardan Das Brahmacary
10. Śrīmān Jagadisa Das Adhikary
11. Śrīmān Hayagriva Das Adhikary
12. Śrīmān Kṛṣṇadas Adhikary

These personalities are now considered as my direct representatives. While I am living they will act as my zonal secretaries and after my demise they will be known as Executors.

I have already awarded Sannyas or the renounced order of life to some of my students and they have also got very important duties to perform in this connection. The Sannyasis will travel to our different centers for preaching purpose as well as enlightening the members of the center for spiritual advancement. The Sannyasis will suggest for opening new centers in suitable places and the GBC will take action on it.

As was stipulated by the ad hoc committee, the function of the GBC will be as follows with particulars:

PARTICULARS OF THE GOVERNING BODY COMMISSION

"The purpose of the Governing Body Commission is to act as the instrument for the execution of the Will of His Divine Grace. And further,

1. The GBC oversees all operations and management of ISKCON, as it receives direction from Śrīla Prabhupāda and His Divine Grace has the final approval in all matters.

2. His Divine Grace will select the initial 12 members of the GBC. In the succeeding years the GBC will be elected by a vote of all Temple presidents who will vote for 8 from a ballot of all Temple presidents, which may also include any secretary who is in charge of a Temple. Those 8 with the greatest number of votes will be members for the next term of GBC. Śrīla Prabhupāda will choose to retain four commissioners. In the event of Śrīla Prabhupāda's absence, the retiring members will decide which four will remain.

3. The commissioners will serve for a period of 3 years, and they may be re-elected at the end of this period.

4. The chairman is elected by the GBC for each meeting. He has no veto power, but in even of a vote tie, his vote will decide. The same will apply for votes cast by mail between regular meetings.

5. Throughout the year, each of the commissioners will stay with His Divine Grace for one month at a time and keep the other commissioners informed of His Divine Grace's instructions.

6. The primary objective of the GBC is to organize the opening of new Temples and to maintain the established Temples.

7. Advice will be given by the GBC in cases of real property purchases, which will be in the name of ISKCON, INC. (Trucks or other vehicles will be purchased in the name of the local president).

8. Removal of a Temple president by the GBC requires support by the local Temple members.

9. The GBC has no jurisdiction in the publication of manuscripts, which will be handled by a separate committee; profits to be returned to Śrīla Prabhupāda."

So far my books are concerned, I am setting up a different body of management known as the BHAKTIVEDANTA BOOK TRUST. The trustees of this body are also members of the GBC, but their function is not dependent on the GBC.

ISKCON Press was created for the exclusive publication of my books and literatures and should be continued in that way.

During my absence no one shall live in my apartment.

PS Absolute power corrupts, and if you are an honest person trying to serve honestly and given position and serve that position honestly it will mostly not last, this is sad.My friend Sadhusangananda from Austria
is a good example of this, he even spend 100.000 dollars out of his pocket to settle the Susan Murphy case in Boston, but he was politiced out of being the TP in Boston, the best TP this temple ever had...I suspect you do a good job in ISKCON Baroda as I have seen BrajHari in ISKCON Mumbai, very nice and sweet devotee that cares for others....we need better leaders in ISKCON and some of the old ones should step aside and let younger devotees take the lead if they strictly follow Srila Prabhupada.
Which also includes Harinaam and bookdistribution .
I like to add:

"Satsvarupa: . . . . These are the members of the original GBC as you first
made it up. So our first question is about the GBC members. We want to know
how long should they remain in office?
Prabhupada: They should remain for good.
This was in Prabhupadas presence, but the Direction of Management should be followed now after his depature back to Godhead

ERROR OF ZAKHEIMISM

Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada.

Here are the reasons I remain unpersuaded by the Zakheimites:

1. The provision in the Direction of Management for electing a GBC was never
implemented in Srila Prabhupada's time. I hold that had Prabhupada wanted to
implement it, he would have done so. There is strong evidence that
Prabhupada was perfectly capable of imposing his will on his managers. He
had proven himself quite able to deal effectively with one conspiracy to
subvert him in 1970-did he do that only to succumb to another? I don't think
so.

2. Prabhupada drew up the Direction of Management; at the same time, there
is evidence to show that he had mixed feelings about elections. On the one
hand, he wrote to Tamal Krishna on 13 October 1969:

"One thing should be followed, however, as your countrymen are more or less
independent spirited and lovers of democracy. So everything should be done
very carefully so that their sentiments may not be hurt. According to
Sanskrit moral principles, everything has to be acted, taking consideration
of the place, audience and time."

On the other hand, he wrote to Karandhara on 19 July, 1973: "Democracy in
spiritual affairs is not at all good but breeds power politics. We should be
careful about power politics."

3. In 1975 Srila Prabhupada guided the GBC in the conduct of its first
formal annual general meeting. He instituted parliamentary procedure, and in
the first session he voted along with everyone else (to show how it is to be
done). He caused the resolutions passed to be recorded by the secretary in
an official minute book. He personally signed off on the resolutions passed.
In that meeting, the fifth resolution record in the minute book repeals the
provision for GBC election in the Direction of Management:

"5) Resolved: The selection of GBC members is that Srila Prabhupada will
nominate, and if there is a discrepancy, His Grace will change him. There
will be no elections, and the present GBC member will remain."

Notice: "There will be no elections."

5. On 28 May, 1977, an official delegation of the GBC met with Srila
Prabhupada with questions for him about GBC, initiation, and translation in
the future, particularly when Prabhupada would be no longer with us.

Concerning the GBC:

"Satsvarupa: . . . . These are the members of the original GBC as you first
made it up. So our first question is about the GBC members. We want to know
how long should they remain in office?
Prabhupada: They should remain for good.
Tamala Krsna: They should remain for good.
Prabhupada: Selected men are chosen, so they cannot be changed. Rather, if
some competent man comes, he should be added. I shall recommend that
Vasudeva become one of the GBC.
Tamala Krsna: Vasudeva is Deoji Punja. He's the founder of our... He's
building the temple in Fiji.
Prabhupada: How many GBC's are there already?
Tamala Krsna: Twenty-three.
Prabhupada: So add him. GBC is not to be changed.
Satsvarupa: But then, in the event that some present GBC member leaves,
either leaves . . .
Prabhupada: Another should be elected.
Satsvarupa: By the votes of the present GBC."

The discussion then turns to the next topic. Some have found the above
exchange inconclusive, because Prabhupada gives no explicit consent to the
last statement of Satsvarupa (who expresses the GBC's understanding of what
Prabhupada intended).

However, one should read the rest of the conversation. Characteristically,
at the end of the meeting, Srila Prabhupada reiterates the points he has
made. So the topic of GBC comes up again:

"Satsvarupa: That's all the questions.
Prabhupada: So there is no question of changing GBC.
Satsvarupa: No.
Prabhupada: Rather, one who is competent, he can be selected to act by the
board of the GBC."

6. Finally, in Srila Prabhupada "Declaration of Will," dated June, 1977, the
second provision contains the statement: "The system of management will
continue as it is now and there is no need of any change."

Basu Ghosh Prabhu you wrote :Puranjan Das, if he was sincere, would have to accept the following.

Sadly, he's just a faultfinder and not a sincere soul. Then my question is why will Anuttama das not accept the GBC's rules from 1996 that a temple can not have readings of Ramacarita Manasa in the temple room, and Satya Narayana pujas are not to be done (what to speak by initiated devotees?) for that i called him an asura in this paper,he also used ISKCON Denver so become rich by allowing devotees to sell jewleries and he would get a cut...sounds pretty bogus to me and most of ISKCON, your friend Hari Vilasa sold Spiritual Sky for personal profit as soon as Prabhupada left this external vision .... that Puranjan has exposed on Pada is sadly a lot of truth, or will you denie Bhavananda and others did what they did? To focus our attention on these things only would make us into flies and not bees looking for the nectar of Krsnas lotusfeet ,and I find your comment that Puranjana focussing his time on the sores make him like Ramachandra puri , not untrue, he is not offering any solution. And trying to defame ISKCON is not good..we want to learn from mistakes not hurt ISKCON

Basu Ghosh Writes:Prabhupada himself delt with corruption: Bali Mardan, Madhu-dvisha,
Hansadutta (he replaced him as GBC of Germany with Harikesh), etc.

It's not that he didn't have many problems to deal with during his lifetime.

The poin here is simple: if Prabhupada had wanted to implement the DoM he
would have done so.

Fact is that you were not present during the last years of Prabhupada's
lifetime to observe his actions.

I was.

And my recollection was that he was "under no one". He did what he pleased.

If he wanted, he would have discussed the DoM "time and again".

He did not. Why?

I had the opportunity to sit and talk with Prabhupada: at Juhu, August 1976,
at Hyderabad, when I flew there from Bombay with Prabhupada, Harikesh, Hari
Sauri and Riksharaj, at the Hyderabad temple opening, Janmastami, August
1976, again, during December 1976 @ Hyderabad, at lunch at Bhogilal Patel's
house, Hyderabad, at Wardha, on the morning walk, at Juhu, December 1976...
on all those occasions, Prabhupada NOT ONCE discussed the DoM.

Why?
It's there in no. 2, below.

That doesn't mean that there wouldn't be any changes, but it was clear that
Prabhupada didn't implement the DoM.

You, I or Prabhupada have/had any right to change our minds... on a
management question. This is "time, place & circumstance", not something
written in vedic shastras

my response:I thank you for that input, wether I was present does not change the fact he wrote the DIRECTION OF MANAGEMENT
and Srila Prabhupada is not a flip flop as you seem to suggest....he also never stated never take this serious ? How can you?yes I saw that, but I do not like how he takes it out of context to the whole document ,it gives a different impression.
I guess we should have kept Bhavananda as a Guru then after he had Gay sex with a Taxi driver in Vrindavan?Or Kirtananda
killing people?
Comment by Paramananda das on June 7, 2010 at 6:42am
so much angry persons are there about this DOM, Srila Prabhupada wrote this document so unqualified TP's and GBC can be removed to try to do away with this documen is a statement of trying to rebel against Srila Prabhupada,I will never agree with that,we will not accept dictatorship ever again in ISKCON, those who do a good job can stay in postion,so why disagree with Srila Prabhupada and go to hell?
Comment by Paramananda das on June 7, 2010 at 6:42am
I have nothing further to say about this, this DOM also protects that Srila Prabhupada remains the founder acarya for ISKCON and his teachings are the ones to be followed, everything else is demoniac
you as conditioned soul may change your mind as may I , Srila Prabhupada is on a different level
Comment by Paramananda das on June 7, 2010 at 6:43am
Srila Prabhupada also advised in this document that his rooms should not be touched, all over the world many of Prabhupadas rooms have not been kept as a memorial to Srila Prabhupada but used, as if Srila Prabhupada never stayed there, I disagree with that, they should have all been kept as memorials or restored to such as during Prabhupadas time, therefore this DOM is important on so many levels
